Prince Harry\u2019s surprise call to Meghan Markle on MasterChef Australia divided viewers (Image: MasterChef Australia)<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n Prince Harry’s unexpected video call to Meghan Markle during her appearance as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia divided viewers, with some praising the couple\u2019s affectionate exchange and others branding it “cringe” and staged.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Duke of Sussex<\/a> briefly appeared on Sunday\u2019s episode after calling the studio while Markle<\/a> and the show’s regular judges were sampling dishes prepared by contestants.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n “We had a phone call to the studio,” a production crew member told Markle as they handed her a phone.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Markle, 44, initially appeared uncertain about the interruption before realizing Harry was on the screen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n She smiled and greeted him by saying, “Hi, my love!”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Harry, 41, responded with an Australian-style greeting, “G’day.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Judges Poh Ling Yeow and Sofia Levin were among those seen laughing during the surprise exchange. Markle then turned the phone toward the studio audience and announced, “My husband\u2019s here.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Audience members cheered as Harry waved from the screen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n “What\u2019s going on? Have I interrupted something important?” he asked.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n “Well, we\u2019re actually in the middle of tasting all the dishes,” Markle replied, pointing the camera toward the plates she and the other judges had been reviewing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The former Suits actor also introduced Harry to contestants Aaron Kher, Casper Kenworthy and Petro Papathomas.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n “It\u2019s amazing,” she said. “They\u2019re so talented.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Markle added, “We wish you were here,\u201d before explaining that Harry was in Canberra meeting with veterans.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
