The Princess of Wales<\/a> may be known to the world as Princess Catherine; however, that is not the name she uses<\/a> behind closed doors, a former royal staffer has claimed. Princess Catherine married Prince William in 2011 and is now one of the most popular members of the Royal Family.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

However, the princess, who used Kate Middleton before 2011<\/a>, came from a non-royal background, a subject which has been weighed on by royal watchers on various occasions through the years, regarding her more humble approach to various royal matters. Now, a former royal staffer has opened up about the secret code names royals use within Palace walls, and revealed Kate\u2019s favourite moniker among her nearest and dearest. Grant Harrold, who served as the King and Queen\u2019s butler, as well as for Prince William<\/a> and Prince Harry<\/a>, gave a rare glimpse into the royals\u2019 lives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Speaking on behalf of Smooth Spins Casino<\/a>, he said about Catherine: \u201cShe was always known as Kate. William always called her Kate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThis Catherine thing only began after the wedding. I think after their coronation, she will be Queen Catherine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cBut until then, it was always Kate behind the scenes.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He added: \u201cI used to call her Kate. I was one of the few who were allowed to use first names rather than titles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWhen I first met her, she introduced herself to me as Kate – and asked me to call her that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meanwhile, Mr Harrold also revealed that the King and Queen use affectionate nicknames, calling each other sweetheart and darling.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The former royal butler then said that staff would usually have code names for each royal, with King Charles\u2019s being \u201cthe Boss\u201d just like his late mother, Quen Elizabeth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Mr Harrold revealed: \u201cWhen we were discussing practical things in staff areas, we had code names for them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe always called King Charles – who was Prince Charles at the time – \u2018The Boss\u2019, and it was the same for the late Queen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe referred to Camilla as \u2018The Duchess\u2019. However, when Princes William and Harry were around, we just referred to them by their first names. And it was the same with Kate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThey also had operational names. The late Queen was famously known as \u2018London Bridge\u2019 – which came to light around her funeral – and Charles is known as \u2018Menai Bridge\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
