RALEIGH, N.C. \u2014\u00a0An annual convention brought together actors, artists, entertainers and fans in downtown Raleigh.\u00a0<\/p>\n
GalaxyCon Raleigh, a four-day “festival of fandom,” took place at the Raleigh Convention Center from Thursday through Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been here pretty much from start of the con to just about after hours,\u201d said Christoper Headley, who was attending the convention for the first time this past weekend.<\/p>\n
He and his wife, who made the trip from Myrtle Beach, are not alone in packing their weekend schedule with the convention\u2019s events.<\/p>\n
Over the span of four days, tens of thousands of people attended and shared their love for things all things comic books, anime, pop culture and cosplay.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great way to meet people that you wouldn\u2019t know like it,\u201d Lindsey Dix said. \u201cI grew up in a small area with people who didn\u2019t know what I liked or thought it was weird. Then being here, coming around people who loved it, it was like \u2018oh wow, there are people who also like the same things I do, I\u2019m not that weird, actually.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Dix, who lives in Greensboro, has been attending GalaxyCon Raleigh for the past decade.\u00a0<\/p>\n
One of her favorite things about about the convention, year after year, is meeting new people.<\/p>\n
\u201cI make new friends here all the time. I meet people I love here,\u201d she said. \u201cWe get to meet celebrities or friends I don\u2019t get to see that often that I can only meet a cons \u2014 it\u2019s so nice to see them while I\u2019m here.\u201d<\/p>\n
While there\u2019s lots of people to meet and things to do, there\u2019s also lots of costumes to see.<\/p>\n
Dix says she spent seven months working on hers.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom pattering, picking out fabrics, dying lace, beadwork and embroidery \u2014 it\u2019s a lot of fun and being able to be here and show off my work is amazing for me,\u201d Dix said.<\/p>\n
Headley says this is one of the best conventions he\u2019s ever been to.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe whole experience has been amazing,\u201d Headley said. \u201cThe costumes have been great. The staff has been amazing. The entire convention center has just been brilliant in helping us navigate.\u201d<\/p>\n
GalaxyCon is being hosted in eight cities across the country this year. The Raleigh show is the organization\u2019s largest.<\/p>\n
