\nleave his role in early summer 2027,<\/a> bringing to an end a
\ncareer that has seen him guide the monarchy through some of its
\nmost significant moments in modern history.<\/p>\nHaving first joined the then Prince of Wales\u2019s Household in 2006
\nas Deputy Private Secretary, Sir Clive became one of the King\u2019s
\nmost trusted confidants. During his time in the role, he helped
\noversee Charles\u2019s transition from Prince of Wales to sovereign
\nfollowing the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.<\/p>\n
He played a central role in planning the King\u2019s Coronation in
\nMay 2023, chaired the Coronation Organising Committee and has
\noverseen numerous state visits both at home and abroad. More
\nrecently, he has helped manage the King\u2019s public programme
\nfollowing His Majesty\u2019s cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n
In a message to Palace staff, Sir Clive reflected on his years
\nof service, saying: \u201cIt has been the greatest imaginable honour to
\nserve the King and Queen in my present role through such historic
\ntimes and with unforgettable humour along the way.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat support will continue, in a less formal capacity, for all
\nof my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
Buckingham Palace said the King and Queen were \u201cdeeply grateful\u201d
\nfor Sir Clive\u2019s years of service, praising his \u201ctireless support\u201d,
\n\u201cwise counsel\u201d and \u201cenduring loyalty\u201d, adding that these qualities
\nwould ensure a smooth transition to his successor.<\/p>\n
Throughout his time in royal service, Sir Clive has been at the
\ncentre of many defining moments for the monarchy. Alongside
\npreparations for the accession and Coronation, he has been closely
\ninvolved in handling the Duke and Duchess of Sussex\u2019s departure
\nfrom royal duties and navigating other challenges faced by the
\nRoyal Family in recent years.<\/p>\n
Prince Harry famously referred to Sir Clive as \u201cThe Wasp\u201d in his
\nmemoir Spare<\/em>, following his involvement in discussions
\nsurrounding the Sussexes\u2019 future role within the monarchy. Within
\nPalace circles, however, Sir Clive has long been recognised for his
\ndiplomatic approach and steadfast loyalty to the King.<\/p>\nBefore returning to royal service in 2015, Sir Clive served as
\nthe British Ambassador to Morocco between 2012 and 2015, having
\npreviously held a number of senior diplomatic postings around the
\nworld after joining the Foreign Office in 1986.<\/p>\n
He was appointed a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order
\n(KCVO) in 2022 in recognition of his service.<\/p>\n
Buckingham Palace will now begin the search for a new Principal
\nPrivate Secretary, with candidates expected to come from both
\ninside and outside the Royal Household.<\/p>\n
