A Florida day care was arrested Wednesday after police accused her of twisting a baby’s leg so hard that it broke.
The brutal attack was caught on video at the Bradenton facility where the Sept. 16 incident took place, authorities said. The footage allegedly shows the suspect repeatedly slapping a 4-month-old before twisting and bending the victim’s right leg.
A family member brought the child to a hospital, where staff alerted police about possible child abuse at Laugh N Learn Academy. Officers launched an investigation and tried to speak with the woman, but she refused to answer questions, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
Authorities obtained a search warrant to review footage from the day care and decided to arrest the suspect, 42-year-old Thalia Camarillo, who has since been charged with aggravated child abuse.
The victim’s condition was not immediately clear, but the baby was transferred to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg because of the severity of the injuries, local news outlet Bradenton Herald reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
