Val’s career was on the rise in the late 80s, performing regularly at a casino in Las Vegas. But everything changed in the late 1990s when he appeared on a show that revealed how magicians performed their tricks. It was the first show to do so, and keep in mind, before the age of the internet, most magicians spent years inventing and perfecting their moves and tricks, and once they perfected a move, they would keep doing the same moves for years. So when Val exposed these secrets, he was shunned by the entire industry.
Val initially disguised himself behind a mask to avoid being recognized, but it didn’t take long for people to figure out who he was. Despite the backlash, Val continued to reveal the secrets of magic until he eventually revealed his true identity after 2 years.
At that point, his career as a magician within the States was over. He eventually moved to Brazil and became quite popular there, but his legacy remained tarnished in the eyes of many in the magic community.
