President Donald Trump said he plans to call for a “major investigation” into the celebrity endorsements that Kamala Harris received during the 2024 campaign, alleging without evidence that Bruce Springsteen, Oprah Winfrey, U2’s Bono and Beyoncé were paid to publicly support the Democratic nominee.
Representatives of several of the entertainers targeted by Trump − all of whom have previously endorsed Democratic candidates for president − have rejected rumors they were paid for their endorsements of Harris.
President Donald Trump has called for a “major investigation” into celebrities who aided Kamala Harris’ 2024 election campaign, including Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, and Bono, saying their appearances were potentially illegal contributions.
Newsweek has contacted representatives for the Kamala Harris campaign, Bono, and the production companies for Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, via email, along with Oprah’s production company, via LinkedIn, for comment.
President Trump called for a “major investigation” into former Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing the failed presidential candidate of breaking the law by paying world-class artists to perform at rallies and endorse her.
The president slammed Harris for her celebrity-filled campaign events leading up to the November election — name-checking Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce, Oprah Winfrey and U2’s Bono.
“HOW MUCH DID KAMALA HARRIS PAY BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN FOR HIS POOR PERFORMANCE DURING HER CAMPAIGN FOR PRESIDENT?” the president asked in an all-caps tirade on his Truth Social.
“WHY DID HE ACCEPT THAT MONEY IF HE IS SUCH A FAN OF HERS? ISN’T THAT A MAJOR AND ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION? WHAT ABOUT BEYONCÉ? …AND HOW MUCH WENT TO OPRAH, AND BONO???” Trump wrote Monday.
President Trump is pressing for a “major investigation” into why some celebrities lined up to support former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, questioning whether megastars Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey and Bono were illegally paid for their endorsements under the guise of performance fees.
President Donald Trump has demanded a “major investigation” into former Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign, alleging the campaign illegally paid celebrities for endorsements. In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump accused Harris of disguising payments to stars like Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen, Oprah Winfrey, and Bono as entertainment expenses, claiming this amounted to buying endorsements, which he says is against campaign finance laws. Trump described the alleged payments as a “corrupt & unlawful” attempt to boost her campaign crowds artificially.
The Harris campaign has denied any wrongdoing, stating that payments made to celebrity production companies covered legitimate event costs rather than personal fees for endorsements. An FEC spokesperson has noted there are no explicit rules prohibiting paid endorsements as long as expenses are properly reported. Despite the controversy, Trump himself has benefited from celebrity support in his campaigns. The call for investigation adds to the ongoing political tensions surrounding the 2024 election cycle.
