Why didn’t Prince Charles marry Diana’s older sister, Lady Sarah Spencer? Sarah, like Diana, was diagnosed with anorexia and also had a drinking problem. She collected and kept newspaper clippings of her affair with Charles to show future grandchildren. She loved the attention she received from the press. On a ski trip to Klosters in 1978 she was interviewed by The Mirror: “I have no chance of marrying Prince Charles. He’s a terrific man, but I’m not in love with him. And I would never marry someone I don’t love, whether it’s a garbage man or the King of England. If he asked me, I would refuse him. Prince Charles is a romantic who falls in love easily.  I’m a whirlwind type lady, not a man who goes on a long, slow courtship. Our relationship is completely platonic.” After realizing her mistake, she called Charles to warn him that her “interview” was to be published soon, to which Charles replied, “You just did something extremely stupid.” That was the end of their relationship.
