The Coral Springs-Coconut Creek Chamber of Commerce will host its inaugural breakfast celebrating military veterans and first responders, “whose courage, dedication, and service make our community stronger every day.” The event will be held at the Coral Springs Museum of Art with a keynote speech by Frank Babinec of Elite Coaching and Consulting. Join Dr. Lindsey Stewart, a Black feminist philosopher, for a talk about her new book, “The Conjuring of America: Mermaids, Medicine, and 400 Years of Black Women’s Magic.” The text tells the stories of how Black women, in secrecy and subterfuge, courageously and devotedly continued their practices and worship for centuries and passed down their traditions. These same practices informed the creation of Vicks VapoRub, Aunt Jemima’s Pancake Mix, Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” (2023), and classic blue jeans.
