Thanks to the World Cup being in Kansas City, the Royals players had a rare off-day on a Saturday. Some got together for one of their favorite hobbies.

The Royals’ clubhouse is full of sports-card collectors, including Matt Strahm, Jac Caglianone and Bobby Witt Jr., so some of them visited a sports-card shop in Kansas City.

But this was no ordinary card shop. This one is owned by former Patriots and Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady. Called CardVault by Tom Brady, it opened Saturday at 1310 Main Street.

“Following the success we’ve seen in Ballpark Village in St. Louis with our partners at The Cordish Companies, expanding into their Kansas City Power & Light District is a natural next step,” Ed Kane, the co-founder of CardVault by Tom Brady, said in a news release. “Kansas City has one of the most passionate sports fan bases in the country, and we’re excited to bring the CardVault experience to the center of that energy.”

Witt, Caglianone, Vinnie Pasquantino, Carter Jensen, Lane Thomas and Nick Loftin joined Brady at the store’s Saturday opening in the Power & Light District. Royals broadcaster Jeremy Guthrie was on hand, too.

Witt, who suffered a Grade 1 MCL sprain on Thursday, seemed to be moving fine, which should be a relief.
