More than $4 million has already been wagered on an event that hasn’t even formally been announced: the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.

The extraordinary figure, provided to Newsweek by prediction market Kalshi, illustrates just how lucrative celebrity culture has become for trading platforms. Bettors aren’t simply speculating on whether the superstar couple will tie the knot—they’re buying and selling contracts on where the ceremony will take place, who will serve as bridesmaids and groomsmen, and whether it will be held this year.

Ironically, the money already wagered on Swift’s big day could pay for dozens of lavish wedding ceremonies. According to The Knot, the average U.S. wedding now costs around $36,000. That means the $4 million traded across Swift wedding markets could finance roughly 111 average American weddings.

Kalshi says more than $2.26 million alone has been traded on the question of where the wedding will take place, making it the platform’s biggest Taylor Swift wedding market. The surge also reflects a broader boom in entertainment prediction markets. Kalshi told Newsweek that entertainment trading volume has exploded from $43 million in 2024 to more than $300 million in 2025, with more than $600 million traded so far in 2026—putting the category on pace for nearly $1 billion this year. The company also said the proportion of female traders has doubled over the past year.

Where Will Swift and Kelce Get Married? Betting Odds Revealed

New York has emerged as the overwhelming favorite. After months of trading back and forth with Rhode Island, New York took the lead on April 6 and has remained comfortably ahead ever since. The market has attracted more than $2.26 million in trading volume alone.

Current Kalshi odds show:

• New York: 80 percent
• Rhode Island: 21 percent

Polymarket narrowed it down further, offering 85 percent odds that Swift and Kelce will get married in Manhattan.

When Will Swift and Kelce Tie The Knot?

Kalshi is offering 95.5 percent odds that the wedding will occur this year, while Polymarket is offering just 1 percent odds that the event will occur before June 30 and 96 percent odds that it will occur before August 31.

The latest odds, which suggest that the wedding will occur in July or August, come after news emerged of the permit for a huge private event at Madison Square Garden on the July 4 weekend.

Multiple outlets have reported that a permit application has been filed to close streets around Madison Square Garden from July 2 through July 4, for a large private event on July 3. However, neither Swift nor Kelce is listed on the permit.

Some fans suspect the permit could be a red herring from Swift, who is notoriously private about her personal life. NYPD officers stationed outside Madison Square Garden also recently told celebrity.land they don’t believe Swift and Kelce will hold their wedding at the venue, with one cop saying, “She’s a glamorous girl. She wouldn’t get married here.”

Who Is Predicted to be Swift’s Bridesmaids?

Abigail Anderson Berard is the current favorite to be one of Swift’s bridesmaids, with fans anticipating that she will serve as the Maid of Honor.

Swift’s childhood best friend was famously immortalized in the 2008 hit song “Fifteen.” Betting markets on sites like Kalshi have 85 percent odds on Berard being a bridesmaid.

Selena Gomez is another favorite with 76 percent odds of being a bridesmaid. Gomez and Swift have been friends for almost 20 years after they met while each was dating a Jonas brother; Swift with Joe and Gomez with Nick.

Ashley Avignone, a New York-based celebrity stylist, interior designer and content creator, who often appears with her friend Swift at NFL games and New York City events, comes in third place with 68 percent.

Gigi Hadid, Swift’s longtime friend, is also predicted to be one of her bridesmaids, with reports emerging last November that Swift asked the model during a dinner in New York City. Kalshi has 54 percent odds on Hadid being in the bridal party.

The Haim sisters, Este, Danielle and Alana, are longtime friends of Swift and are all expected to attend her wedding. However, fans and betting markets suspect they could also be invited to be bridesmaids, with Este a favorite at 67 percent, while Danielle and Alana are at 31 percent and 39 percent, respectively.

Kylie Kelce, the wife of retired NFL center Jason Kelce and sister-in-law of Travis Kelce, has 61 percent odds.

Meanwhile, the odds on Brittany Mahomes becoming a bridesmaid have fallen to just 8 percent, perhaps because of rumors of a rift with Swift and their recent lack of appearances together. The pair have been friends since Swift began dating Kelce, but with the NFL in the off-season, they haven’t had their typical football-related meetups.

Odds have also dropped on Blake Lively, now standing at 8 percent, amid reports that their friendship had soured after Swift was pulled into Lively’s legal dispute with It Ends With Us director Justin Baldoni.

Who Are Predicted To Be Kelce’s Groomsmen?

Separate markets also allow traders to speculate on Kelce’s wedding party. His brother Jason Kelce is the favorite, with odds of 89 percent.

He was followed closely by his Kansas City Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes at 72 percent, and Swift’s younger brother, Austin Swift, at 71 percent.

Kelce’s childhood friend Aric Jones is the next favorite at 64 percent.

Celebrity Guests Predicted To Attend

Patrick Mahomes leads the guestlist favorites on Polymarket with 92 percent odds, followed by Selena Gomez at 91 percent and Grammy-winning musician Jack Antonoff at 87 percent. Other favorites include Brittany Mahomes, the Haim sisters and Sabrina Carpenter.

Comparatively, Polymarket is also offering odds of 10 percent for a much less likely guest, controversial manosphere YouTuber Andrew Tate.

Kalshi’s guestlist betting market is also dominated by the Mahomes, the Haims, Gomez and Antonoff, with singer Benny Blanco getting odds of 88 percent while Gracie Abrams has odds of 76 percent.

At the other end of the market are former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at 13 percent and his new girlfriend, Katy Perry, at 12 percent.

Jared Goff, the Detroit Lions quarterback, has odds of 10 percent.

Celebrities Who Have Said They’re Attending The Wedding

Many celebrities are rumored to be attending the wedding of the year, but only a few have publicly confirmed their attendance so far.

• George Kittle: Confirmed he’s attending in an interview with ExtraTV at the Tight Ends & Friends concert presented by Sports Illustrated and Reese’s. The San Francisco 49ers star said he was invited and discussed the couple’s reported “no gifts” rule.
• Jason Kelce: Speaking to reporters at his Team 62 Fundraiser, Kelce said he was looking forward to celebrating with the couple.
• Andy Reid: During an interview on The Drive radio show, the Kansas City Chiefs head coach joked: “If I don’t outgrow my tuxedo before then, I’m going.”

San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle revealed one of the rules Swift and Kelce have for the big day—and how he is planning to break it.

Appearing on the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast, Kittle said he intends to ignore the common request that wealthy guests skip presents.

“If I get invited to Travis Kelce’s wedding, and on the invitation it says, ‘No gifts,’ I’m still buying them a gift,” Kittle said.

His reasoning was simple: “They’re rich enough to buy anything they want, but I still want to get them something.”

Sources told TMZ that the cost to rent out Madison Square Garden could be around $1 million a day. With a day to set up, the day of the event, and a day to strike all the decorations, the venue alone could cost the couple $3 million.

How Many Swift-Kelce Weddings Could Be Held For Cost Of Jeff Bezos’ Wedding?

While Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding is set to be a star-studded, lavish affair, it cannot compare in cost to the luxurious Venice wedding of Amazon founder and the world’s fourth richest man, Jeff Bezos, to Lauren Sánchez.

Bezos’ wedding was estimated to have cost between $46 million and $56 million. Based on the lower estimates for Swift’s big day, that means there could be five and a half Swift-Kelce weddings for the price of one Bezos wedding. A $10 million wedding is equal to 277 average weddings, while Bezos’ $46 million wedding could have paid for 1,277 average weddings.

Who Is Planning The Wedding?

While Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have not confirmed who is planning their wedding, multiple reports have identified celebrity event planner Mark Seed as the person behind the highly anticipated celebration. Seed, the founder of New York-based Exposure NY, is known for his discretion and has built a reputation for keeping celebrity weddings under wraps.

According to multiple reports, Seed has previously planned weddings for stars including Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney, as well as Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley.

Will the Wedding Cause Chaos in NYC?

According to reports first published by The New York Times and confirmed by multiple outlets, a permit application has been filed to close streets around Madison Square Garden from July 2 through midday July 4, with preparations for a large private event expected on July 3. The permit reportedly also calls for a tent outside the arena to accommodate between 500 and 999 guests. Newsweek has reached out to City Hall for comment.

If the wedding is held at Madison Square Garden over the July 4 holiday weekend, it could coincide with one of the busiest periods New York City has faced in years.

Not only would the city be preparing for a visit from the world’s biggest pop star and her high-profile NFL-player fiance, those plans would overlap with an extraordinary lineup of events already drawing millions of visitors to the city, including July 4 celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary, the annual Macy’s fireworks display, and the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, with New York serving as one of the tournament’s host cities.

The prospect of all three events occurring simultaneously has already caught the attention of city officials.

At a recent budget hearing, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the combination would place unprecedented demands on law enforcement.

“Any one of those on their own would be a big deal in New York City. All of them taken together are unprecedented and are going to place unusual, and I would say historic, demands on the New York City Police Department,” she said.

Tisch later claimed she was joking about Swift’s wedding.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani also acknowledged the convergence of events during a recent press conference, joking: “July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding. All happening at the same time.”

celebrity.land made a similar comparison following the couple’s engagement, writing that Swift and Kelce had become “American royalty” by combining two of the country’s biggest cultural institutions: pop music and the NFL. Wedding publication The Knot likewise dubbed the event the “American royal wedding,” predicting that its influence will extend far beyond the ceremony itself into fashion, décor and wedding spending trends.

Newsweek’s own Chief Royal Correspondent, Jack Royston, who was inside Windsor Castle during Harry and Meghan’s wedding in 2018, said he understood the comparison and he “very much view[ed] Taylor Swift as American royalty… I do think when it comes to weddings there’s still a difference in the extent to which the public are explicitly included by the royals.”

“I can still remember how exciting it felt walking through crowds thousands in the streets of Windsor before Meghan and Harry’s royal wedding,” he said. “Some people camped out the night before in sleeping bags to make sure they got a good spot but in reality the route was so long that most got fairly close to the front and an opportunity to see the couple—and the dress and tiara—close up.

“While I hadn’t started royal reporting yet, I still remember how completely William and Kate’s wedding consumed the British public because it was the moment Kate became a future queen. We all knew also that it wouldn’t be long before a future king would be born. Royal weddings change the course of history because the monarchy is woven into the fabric of the state and private life is woven into the fabric of monarchy.

“At one moment, it can feel like royals are just another type of celebrity… until the Foreign Office packs the king off to America to push for a change in US foreign policy and then it becomes very clear again that royalty does do something very different to what celebrities can do.

“Needless to say, Taylor Swift is definitely an American Princess in my eyes and I know that, when she marries, for thousands of die hard fans the world will briefly stop. As well it should.”

There is an important distinction. Royal weddings are constitutional events involving members of the British monarchy. A Swift-Kelce wedding would have no state function or official status. The comparison is cultural rather than constitutional—reflecting the couple’s extraordinary celebrity, not political power.

Hannah Yelin, Associate Professor and Chair of the Creative Industries Network at Oxford Brookes, explained that both Swift and the Royal weddings celebrate the “spectacle of status.”

“The Swift wedding celebrates celebrity capitalism,” she told Newsweek. “Where a royal wedding is about constitutional symbolism, this is about her extraordinary cultural and economic clout as a global entertainment brand.”

Cost: Lavish, but Unlikely To Rival Royal Budgets

The wedding is expected to rank among the most expensive celebrity ceremonies in recent memory.

Celebrity planners estimate a Swift-Kelce celebration could easily cost $20 million once security, venue buyouts, entertainment and logistics are factored in, but that would still fall well short of Britain’s biggest royal weddings.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 2011 wedding reportedly cost around $34 million, with security accounting for the vast majority of the expense. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 wedding reportedly cost roughly $45 million, again driven largely by policing and security operations.

Unlike royal weddings, however, a Swift-Kelce celebration would almost certainly be privately funded.

Prestige: Pop Culture Meets American Sports

Few celebrity couples have united two audiences on this scale. Swift remains the world’s biggest touring artist following the record-breaking Eras Tour, while Kelce has become one of the NFL’s most recognizable faces through his three Super Bowl victories, his New Heights podcast and a growing television career.

Together, they bridge entertainment, sports, fashion and social media in a way few modern couples have managed. While William and Catherine represented the future of the monarchy, Swift and Kelce arguably represent two pillars of modern American culture.

Their full guest list is expected to be a who’s who of entertainment and sports, such as Kelce’s Chiefs teammates and Swift’s celebrity friends, including the likes of Ed Sheeran.

Royal weddings routinely become defining television moments watched by hundreds of millions worldwide. William and Kate’s wedding drew an estimated global audience of around 2 billion people across television and digital platforms.

A Swift-Kelce wedding would almost certainly dominate social media rather than traditional television.

The Eras Tour demonstrated Swift’s ability to move economies, tourism and consumer spending—a phenomenon economists dubbed “Swiftonomics.”

Experts expect her wedding dress, flowers, jewelry and even manicure could trigger immediate consumer trends in much the same way Catherine’s Alexander McQueen gown reshaped bridal fashion in 2011.
