The University of Surrey on Friday paid tribute to the Duke of Kent as he marked 50 years as its chancellor.
The Duke of Kent, Prince Edward, is the oldest living member of the British royal family and a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
In a social media post containing multiple pictures of the royal, the university said, “His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent has marked 50 years as Chancellor of our University – one of the longest chancellorships in the history of British higher education.”
The social media post read, “Appointed in 1976, he has opened our Research Park, the Duke of Kent Building and the Institute for People-Centred AI, and presided over graduation ceremonies for tens of thousands of students.”
“Fifty years, one steadfast Chancellor. Thank you, Your Royal Highness,” the post concluded.
The Royal Family’s official Instagram account was prominent in reacting to the University of Surrey’s homage to the Duke of Kent.
