In 2014, while filming <em>Suits<\/em> in Toronto, she launched The Tig, a blog on food, travel, and wellness, years ahead of the influencer boom. But as her relationship with Harry deepened, she <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/royals\/meghan-markle-is-shutting-down-her-lifestyle-website-the-tig-its-time-to-say-goodbye\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\">shut it down in 2017<\/a> and later deleted her Instagram before joining royal life. How hard was it to let go?\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_38-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cWell, I loved The Tig, but I certainly love my husband more,\u201d she says. \u201cSo that was a choice I made at the time, and I wouldn\u2019t change that for a second.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_40-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Harry is now loving watching Meghan step back into her creative groove.\u00a0\u201cMy husband met me when I had The Tig, and I see this spark in his eye when he sees me doing the thing that I was doing when he first met me,\u201d she says.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_42-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Even though the activities on her new show feel familiar to Meghan\u2019s longtime followers, the filming pushed her beyond the comfort zone she knew from her seven seasons on <em>Suits<\/em>.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_44-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cI was never really in front of the camera like this,\u201d she says. Reflecting on the legal drama \u2014 which became one of Netflix\u2019s most-streamed shows in 2023 \u2014 she adds: \u201cIt\u2019s a time capsule for me \u2014 I still have the pencil skirt from the first episode! That\u2019s the one thing I kept.\u201d She remains close to costars like Abigail Spencer and is excited to see the upcoming <em>Suits LA<\/em> on Peacock: \u201cI love that it gets a new breath of fresh air.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_46-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Her new show isn&#8217;t a traditional \u201cstand and\u00a0stir\u201d format \u2014 an industry term Meghan learned during filming to describe most cooking shows. \u201cIt feels as though we\u2019re just spending time together, which is what it ended up being,\u201d she says of the crew\u2019s presence on the series. \u201cI\u2019d make a recipe and say, \u2018Everyone try this,\u2019 and there are certain dishes where you just watch everyone flock in. I\u2019d say, \u2018We\u2019ve run out of spoons!\u2019 It ended up feeling so communal, and that\u2019s the spirit of the show.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_50-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Adds director Michael Steed, who previously worked on the Emmy-winning series <em>Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown<\/em>: \u201cEveryone has this one version of her, but she\u2019s just someone who is hustling and working and doing. I genuinely wanted to create an environment where she could relax, and I know the pressures of what she deals with on a daily basis. Chinese food delivery is a favorite, \u201cbut even when I get takeout, I will try to plate it beautifully,\u201d says Meghan. She encourages others to strive for balance, not perfection, despite her show\u2019s beautiful imagery. \u201cThe series is about doing what you can do,\u201d she says, \u201cand doing it with love.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_63-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> That outlook was first noticed by a friend who visited the set and came up with the name of the show: \u201cTheir takeaway was they were so happy to see me as myself,\u201d Meghan says. \u201cShe said, \u2018It\u2019s like your love letter to all the things you\u2019ve loved to do, and if you\u2019re signing off a love letter, it\u2019s \u201cWith love, Meghan.\u201d \u2019 \u201d It felt right, and I loved that my friend helped create it.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_65-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Receiving that kind of feedback from her friends, who have quietly supported her through the challenges of recent years, has been meaningful for Meghan. \u201cYou have to imagine my friends\u2019 experience through the past few years,\u201d she says. \u201cThey spend all this time with me at home and at their houses or out at dinners. For them to see who they know to be reflected onscreen, it brought them a lot of joy.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"mntl-sc-block_67-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block people-sc-block-subheading mntl-sc-block-subheading\"> <span class=\"mntl-sc-block-subheading__text\"> Her private world in Montecito <\/span> <\/h3>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_68-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> The Montecito community, who have gotten to know her from school drop-offs and playdates with Archie and Lili, have become essential.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_70-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cWe hosted a little camp because winter break was long!\u201d she says with a laugh. \u201cWe had several days with different families at our home, and we were able to get to know the parents better, and all the kids could play.\u201d Meghan and Harry set up obstacle courses and face painting. \u201cIt\u2019s a dream,\u201d she says. \u201cBut I also know that being part of a community means you put effort into it.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_72-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> In the process, Meghan says, Montecito has become protective of the Sussexes: \u201cOnce you know us, I think you want us to have the same normalcy as parents and for our children as they do, despite however unique our situation is.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_74-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> For Meghan, normal looks like nights out with Harry and pals. \u201cWe go to a lot of dinners, and not just in people\u2019s homes or private rooms; we just go into the restaurant,\u201d she says. \u201cI really love that we can just have fun.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<figure id=\"mntl-sc-block_76-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block people-sc-block-image mntl-sc-block-image mntl-sc-block-image--no-theme no-theme figure-landscape figure-high-res\"><figcaption id=\"mntl-figure-caption_4-0\" class=\"comp mntl-figure-caption text-utility-100 figure-article-caption\"> <span class=\"figure-article-caption-text\">Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, photographed at home in Montecito, CA, in June 2024 with late dog, Guy.<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"figure-article-caption-owner\"><\/p>\n<p>Jake Rosenberg\/Courtesy Netflix<\/p>\n<p><\/span><br \/>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_77-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Her friendships with other moms have grown beyond school ties into deeper connections. \u201cI have a couple of girlfriends up here; these are stay-at-home moms and working women with normal jobs, not in the public eye,\u201d she explains. \u201cWe went from just connecting through our kids to having girls\u2019 night out or doing Pilates together.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_79-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> One confidante recalls how they first connected when Archie and her daughter became fast friends at school. Meghan reached out with a voicemail inviting her to a playdate.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_81-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cYou can see that as a unit,\u201d the friend says of the Sussexes, \u201cthey\u2019re all very connected.\u201d After her son\u2019s recent surgery, the friend recalls, Meghan sent a bouquet of balloons and a stuffed octopus from Archie and Lili, with a handwritten note that said, \u201cWe thought you could use a hug with eight arms.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_83-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> And when Meghan was invited to her low-key birthday party at home, she showed up despite not knowing anyone else and chatted with the other women about \u201cmom stuff and life,\u201d says the pal. \u201cIt was just fun and natural.
