Sophie Winkleman<\/strong><\/a> isn\u2019t writing any love letters about regal fame. <\/span><\/p>\n

After all, <\/span>The Palace<\/span><\/em> actor\u2014who became part of the royal family after tying the knot with<\/span> Queen Elizabeth II<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s<\/span> first cousin one removed, <\/span>Lord Frederick Windsor<\/strong>, in 2009\u2014candidly shared what it\u2019s been like to see her relatives navigate their lives in the spotlight. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe more I get to know the royal family, the more I get that their lives are total hell,\u201d Sophie, 45, told <\/span>The Times<\/span><\/em><\/a> in an interview published Nov. 12, \u201cand that level of unasked-for fame is a form of torture. None of them went on <\/span>Pop Idol<\/span><\/em> or something to be famous.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cTo have that sort of blinding spotlight in your face from when you\u2019re born, not knowing quite whom you can trust, not knowing if someone\u2019s going to betray you, people writing lies about you the whole time, is just brutal. I feel for them all. I don\u2019t think a life with that much scrutiny and pressure is remotely healthy, but they have no choice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Though Sophie and her husband\u2014who share daughters <\/span>Maude<\/strong>, 11, and <\/span>Isabella<\/strong>, 9\u2014aren\u2019t working royals, she\u2019s always recognized how intimidating her in-laws\u2019 popularity is in the U.K. In fact, she witnessed that reputation during her wedding, when nearly all 400 of her guests were members of the royal family. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know anyone at my wedding,\u201d the <\/span>Peep Show<\/span><\/em> alum revealed in the interview. \u201cI had my best pals there, but basically it was full of faces I\u2019d never seen before.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And similar to their attendance at her wedding, Sophie noted \u201cthe senior royals\u201d\u2014including <\/span>King Charles III<\/strong><\/a>, <\/span>Prince William<\/strong><\/a>, his wife <\/span>Kate Middleton<\/strong><\/a>, and more\u2014always add \u201chuge prestige and heft\u201d to any event they attend or charity they donate to.<\/span><\/p>\n
