Community invited to 3-day All-American blowout<\/span><\/p>\n

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of Monroeville and America\u2019s 250th birthday, the municipality and Monroeville Foundation invites the community to the first-ever All-American Weekend from July 3-5.<\/span><\/p>\n

The special three-day celebration will bring together the annual Independence Day Parade, fireworks and Monroeville Community Day, as well as countless other performances, activities and experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n

There will be delicious food trucks, bands, games and more spread across the community, making sure everyone has a chance to join in the fun.<\/span><\/p>\n

July 3:<\/strong> Things will kick off at 4:30 p.m. with the \u201cLegacy of Leadership VIP Ceremony\u201d at Tall Trees Amphitheater. The ceremony will honor local leaders who have helped shape Monroeville over the decades. The event is free, and the public in encouraged to attend.<\/span><\/p>\n

The night\u2019s main event will be a free performance by the East Winds Symphonic Band from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A local favorite for more than 40 years, East Winds consists of nearly 70 talented musicians from across Pittsburgh\u2019s eastern suburbs.<\/span><\/p>\n

July 4:<\/strong> The annual Monroeville Independence Day Parade will begin at 9 a.m. from the Miracle Mile Shopping Center to the Monroeville Convention Center. The night ends with a bang with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. outside Monroeville Mall. The best place to see the show is from the parking lot near the mall\u2019s annex.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a reenactment of a worship service on the Western Pennsylvania frontier that was led by Presbyterian missionaries during the Revolutionary War. Presentation to cover county reassessments<\/span><\/p>\n

At-large Allegheny Council member Bethany Hallam will discuss reassessments during a presentation at 6 p.m. July 6 at the Pitcairn Boro Park Building, 557 Broadway Blvd.<\/span><\/p>\n

The purpose of the gathering is to give the public the opportunity to offer comment on proposed bill No. 13892-26, which provides for regular reassessment of properties located within Allegheny County.<\/span><\/p>\n

There will be a question-and-answer period following the presentation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pitcairn firefighters gearing up for annual Jubilee in August<\/span><\/p>\n

Pitcairn Hose Company No. 1 is hosting its annual Jubilee from Tuesday, Aug. 4, through Saturday, Aug. 8, at the station, 100 S. Center Ave., Pitcairn.<\/span><\/p>\n

The festival will be open nightly from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. and until 11 p.m. on the weekends. There will be a parade at 6 p.m. Aug. 8.<\/span><\/p>\n

There will be rides, games and traditional fair food provided by the fire company and a midway in partnership with Bartlebaugh Amusements.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anyone interested in buying a vacant lot next to their property in Pitcairn is encouraged to participate in Allegheny County\u2019s Vacant Property Recovery Program.<\/span><\/p>\n

Christ the Divine Shepherd-St. Bernadatte campus officials will host a church festival from 5 to 10 p.m. July 16-18 each night.<\/span><\/p>\n

Farmers market runs through November<\/span><\/p>\n

The Monroeville Lions Farmers Market will be held from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday through Nov. 21.<\/span><\/p>\n

It will be in the Monroeville Mall parking lot along Mall Circle Drive, between Best Buy and Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, the market will host 27 vendors. Each week, Lions Club members will be on hand to collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids and to sell brooms made by the visually impaired.<\/span><\/p>\n

Church\u2019s clothes closet open to those in need<\/span><\/p>\n

The Presbyterian Church of Pitcairn operates a clothes closet each month, typically from 10 a.m. to noon the second and fourth Saturdays, in the former pastor\u2019s house attached to the church building, 312 Highland Ave.<\/span><\/p>\n

The clothes closet serves hundreds of people in Pitcairn each year who are in need of clothes and accessories. From infants to adults and from shoes to hats, the closet maintains an inventory for all people and all seasons.<\/span><\/p>\n

Senior center free for residents<\/span><\/p>\n

The Monroeville Senior Citizens Center, 6000 Gateway Blvd., is free for residents 50 and older from Monroeville and Pitcairn to join.<\/span><\/p>\n

The facility includes state-of-the-art equipment and senior friendly cardiovascular and strength training equipment, Fitness memberships are free for residents 65 and older. Residents 50 to 64 pay $60 for a three-month plan, $100 for six months and $160 for a full year.<\/span><\/p>\n

All programs and classes require registration, and some require fees.<\/span><\/p>\n

County treasurer plans mobile visits<\/span><\/p>\n

Allegheny County Treasurer Erica Rocchi Brusselars will conduct mobile office events in Monroeville over the next several months.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Treasurer\u2019s Office, the goal of the events is to expand access to services for county residents, without the need to travel to Pittsburgh.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of the services offered include real estate tax information, dog licensing, hunting\/fishing licensing and senior tax applications. A full list of services can be found on the office\u2019s website at alleghenycountytreasurer.us<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The PA Lyme Resource Network hosts a monthly Lyme disease support group meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

The three-day event includes an Aug. 14 icebreaker; dinner, dancing and music Aug. 15 at Christ the Divine Mercy Academy Lourdes Center in Monroeville; and a family picnic Aug. 16 in Highland Park.<\/span><\/p>\n
