Diego Luna revealed on Thursday that his son Jerónimo, eleven, and daughter Fiona, nine, contracted coronavirus, but have since recovered.
The Star Wars: Rogue One star, 40, expressed his delight that his children were able to return home after the ordeal, as he took part in a live Q&A session with IndieWire via Instagram on Thursday.
Beginning the interview on a positive note, he explained: ‘I want to start by saying this, it’s why I look so happy in such weird times, my kids had the virus long ago and they just were allowed to come home.
‘They’re immune now, they’re in the next stage. Yesterday was the first night they slept here and life has changed dramatically for me.’
Detailing the difficult experience, the doting father went on: ‘I was like three weeks not being able to hug them or get close to them, and finally I am.’
Diego shares his two children with ex-wife and singer Camila Sodi, who he was married to from 2008 to 2013.
Diego went on to discuss his recent projects and answer some fan questions, and he addressed whether or not he will return for future seasons of Narcos: Mexico.
The Y Tu Mamá También star played Mexican drug lord Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo in the hit Netflix show for two seasons, going up against Michael Peña’s DEA agent Kiki Camarena and Scoot McNairy’s Walt Breslin respectively.
And while his character is still alive by the end of the latest series, Diego admitted that he wasn’t in a rush to return anytime soon.
When asked about if he’d go back, he said: ‘Not for now, not for now, no, no, no.’
Of his reasoning, Diego explained: ‘At the beginning it was fun, but then it became really heavy for me… I need rest, those two years were really intense for me.’
Discussing how other actors can leave work behind when they return home, he said living in Mexico meant he ‘still live[s] with the result of what happened in the 80s and 90s’ and thus couldn’t separate himself easily from the character.
