JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The mayor of Jackson said Thalia Mara Hall is on track to open to the public later this month.
Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba said the opening date for the venue is January 17, 2025.
The facility closed in August 2024 after mold was discovered. In November, Angie Ladner, the former manager for Thalia Mara Hall, resigned. She said the building faces numerous problems with the escalators, bathrooms and elevators.
Lumumba said a majority of the work at Thalia Mara Hall is almost complete.
“The HVAC cleaning and encapsulation process is at 90%. The lead abatement is at 70% completion. The theater mitigation is at 80%, and the lobby is at 99%,” he said.
Since the remediation project began, officials said progress has been made in the areas of air quality, structural cleaning and roofing inspections.
