Adopt-A-Palooza
BrotherBird Foundation will hold the fifth annual Adopt-A-Palooza at noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at 132 W. Fourth St.

Fall Holistic Fair
The Fall Holistic Fair will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-29, at First National Bank Exhibition Hall at The Ranch, 5280 Arena Circle.
Explore alternative choices for taking care of the body, mind, spirit and environment. It will include astrology, tarot, palmistry, aura portraits, clairvoyant readings, as well as vendors and artisans, door prizes and lectures.
Admission is $10 a day or $15 for the weekend. Children under 12 are free. Bring two canned or nonperishable food items for the Food Bank of Larimer County and receive a $1 discount. Parking is free. TVHS Golf Tourney
TVHS Athletics will hold its first Alumni Golf Tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Mariana Butte Golf Course, 701 Clubhouse Drive.
Registration is at 6:30 a.m.
Cost is $175 per golfer or $700 per team.
Proceeds go directly to the school’s athletic programs.
A banquet will follow the tournament.

Bunco Bash
A Bunco Bash to benefit Wreaths Across America will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Good Shepherd Church, 3429 N. Monroe Ave.

Bears Along the River
The Loveland Open Lands and Trails will present its last “Natural Areas After Dark” presentation of the season, “Bears Along the River,” at 7-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the River’s Edge Natural Area amphitheater, 960 W. First St.
The program is full of bear facts, bear necessities and the bear bones about the largest ursine resident in Northern Colorado. The program will compare area bears to those of other regions to the north, and show artifacts.

‘October Surprise’
OpenStage Theatre will open its 2024-25 season with the world premiere of “October Surprise” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at The OBC Wine Project, 824 E. Lincoln Ave.
The play was written and directed by Miguel Muñoz, a local actor and playwright.
In the play, in the midst of a high-tension Texas senate race, a political crisis at the border and a sibling rivalry, Maria, a passionate, strong-willed immigration lawyer and activist is running against her brother Antonio, the new charismatic face of conservatism. When Maria uncovers a secret that could decimate her brother’s campaign and his life, she must decide if her family ties mean more than her ideals.
“October Surprise” takes a heart-wrenching look at the disparity between family loyalty and personal convictions in America.
The show contains mature language and subject matter.
The show will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 28-Oct. 12, with one Sunday performance Oct. 6. There also will be a free student/educator performance on Thursday, Sept. 26, and a pay-what-you-can performance on Thursday, Oct. 3.

Youth Climate Action
The Sustainable Living Association’s second annual Youth Climate Action event will take place at 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, in Old Town Square in downtown Fort Collins. The National Public Lands Day event offers students ages 15-25 a chance to learn how to tackle climate change.
From 9 a.m. to noon, students can work on community service projects, and from noon to 3 p.m., they can hear youth speakers share their experiences with environmental preservation, environmental justice, outdoor equity and civic engagement. There will be a green career info booth, and youths can get help to create action plans to guide their environmental efforts at school, home and in the community.

Hero Fest
Hero Fest — Northern Colorado will take place at 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Front Range Village, 2720 Council Tree Ave.
HeroFest is a family-friendly event sponsored by the Larimer County Office of Emergency Management, city of Fort Collins Emergency Preparedness and Security and Canvas Credit Union.
The event will feature first responders from across the region, emergency vehicles on display, a medical helicopter landing, Kids Zone with bounce house and carnival games, food trucks and more. Garage Band Benefit
Houska Automotive will host a Garage Band benefit concert at 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Houska Automotive Heavy Duty, 1005 Riverside Ave.
All donations will benefit Vindeket Foods, a nonprofit food rescue group that partners with grocery stores, restaurants and farms to reduce waste.
The public is invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the benefit, which will include live music from Say Uncle, a blues and reggae-infused rock band, and Last Call Romance, a high-energy band playing a mix of swing and rock.
Food trucks will be on site, and there will be opportunities to learn about Vindeket Foods.
The event is free, but attendees are encouraged to make monetary donations or donate items to Vindeket Foods. Nonperishable foods are requested. They will be added to the Vindeket Market, a no-cost market open to anyone and supported by donations from the community.
Cash donations are designated to the Root Bound Campaign. The seven-year-old nonprofit Vindeket’s current location is 2,400 square feet; the plan is to find a three-times larger location with a commercial kitchen, education center, and increased cold and freezer storage.

Historic Marker
A bronze marker will be dedicated at the Virginia Dale Community Church, 30437 U.S. 287, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29.
Daughters of the American Revolution has granted Overland Trail Chapter in Laporte permission to designate Virginia Dale Community Church a DAR national historic site.

Aardvark Embark

Elk Fest

CHEYENNE
Frontier Days Dandies
For the first time, Cheyenne Frontier Days has opened tryouts for the Dandies drill team to young women in Colorado.
Tryouts are open to young women from Wyoming and Colorado ages 14-19 and will be held in the CFD arena at 1230 W. Eighth Ave., at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29.
Young women interested in joining the team must own or lease a horse and be willing to travel. Tryout requirements include an application, written test, horsemanship and personal interview.
The young women selected for next year’s Dandies will serve as goodwill ambassadors for Cheyenne Frontier Days, representing the event at rodeos, fairs and events throughout the Rocky Mountain region, including Casper, Estes Park and Greeley.
During the annual 10-day event, July 18-27, the Dandies will participate in the rodeo performances and each of downtown parades. Additionally, they will attend the Coronation Ball, the Western Art Show and Sale, pancake breakfasts and the Air Force Thunderbird aerial demonstration.
A makeup tryout will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2,for those who are unable to attend on Sept. 29.
