A guide to Richmond summer events —concerts, festivals, camps and art shows


If you’re looking for fun things to do in Richmond and nearby this summer, Richmondside has you covered with a roundup of activities happening between now until early September.

Exercise and dance at summer Thrive Thursday, weekly through Aug. 6

Richmond’s Thrive Thursday gatherings bring salsa, bachata and other dance lessons to Nicholl Park every Thursday evening through Aug. 6. Each session also includes yoga, walking with a doctor, resource tables and children’s games — all designed to help the community gather, learn and practice healthy habits.

Celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride with a parade, June 7

A parade and festival are headlining this year’s celebration of Richmond’s LGBTQ+ community. The 12th Annual Pride Event kicks off at 11 a.m. with a parade from Nicholl Park to the Richmond Civic Center, followed by a community gathering from noon to 4 p.m. featuring music, dancing, food and other activities.

Point Richmond Music series returns for 25th season, June 12-Sept. 11

Point Richmond lights up on the second Friday of every month this summer with live music, art exhibits, face painting and dancing in the streets. The Point Richmond Music series, celebrating its 25th season, runs June 12, July 10, Aug. 14 and Sept. 11, with two musical acts starting at 5:30 p.m each evening. Local restaurants stay open throughout the festivities.

San Pablo hosts two evening outdoor movie nights, June 12 and Aug. 14

The city of San Pablo is hosting two outdoor movie nights under the stars this summer at the San Pablo Community Center. The first Movies Under the Stars screens “How to Train Your Dragon” on June 12, followed by “The Goat” on Aug. 14. Both events start at 8:30 p.m. Families are welcome to bring chairs, blankets and their favorite snacks.

Richmond is running two city-sponsored children’s summer camps. The Achieve Summer Camp program includes activities, field trips and learning opportunities at the Booker T. Anderson Community Center, Nevin Community Center, Parchester Community Center and Shields-Reid Community Center. The Summer Camp Elevate 2026 program includes arts, crafts, group games, movement activities, field trips and enrichment activities at the May Valley Community Center and Richmond Recreation Complex. Fees vary depending on the activity.

Camps run weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 15 to Aug. 7. To register for the Achieve camp, visit one of the Achieve camp locations. To sign up for the Elevate program, visit online or the city recreation complex, 3230 Macdonald Ave. For more information about either program, call (510) 620-6793. $20 to $125 per month

Summer programs for children at Salesian Youth Club, June 15-Aug. 7

Arts, crafts, sports and group activities are part of the summer fun this year at the West County Salesian Youth Club. The programs serve youths ages 6 to 14, running June 15 to Aug. 7, with the week of June 29 off. Hands-on learning experiences round out the games and sports lineup. Spots are limited so register early.

Richmond Art Center offers summer art classes for children, June-August

Richmond Art Center campers can discover a variety of printmaking techniques inspired by the natural world. They’ll experiment with printing using plants, flowers, and leaves, as well as harnessing the power of the sun to create images. Courtesy of Richmond Art Center

The Richmond Art Center is running a variety of summer art classes for children of all ages, from painting to pottery to drawing. A few spots remain open — act fast.

Music on the Main concerts returning, starting June 18

A trio of summer concerts is returning to downtown Richmond at The Lot, organized by the Richmond Main Street Initiative. The Music on the Main series opens June 18 with Andre Thierry Accordion Soul Music. Performers for the July 9 and Sept. 24 concerts have not been announced.

Richmond celebrates Juneteenth with parade and festival at Nicholl Park, June 20

Richmond’s annual Juneteenth Celebration starts with a parade through the heart of Richmond, followed by a festival at Nicholl Park featuring live music, dance performances, cultural displays, food and family-friendly activities. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when slaves in Texas learned they had been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation.

Father’s Day calls for a hearty breakfast and a tour of a historic World War II ship, Richmond’s SS Red Oak Victory. The annual Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast features scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon and pancakes, plus music from the Lovin’ Harmony Trio. Guests can also tour the SS Red Oak, the last surviving vessel of the 747 ships built in the Richmond shipyards during the second world war.

Richmond Art Center showcases local artists in Made in Richmond exhibit, June 24-Aug. 17

Homegrown works from local artists will be featured at the Richmond Art Center this summer as part of the Made in Richmond exhibit, opening June 24 and running through Aug. 17. An opening reception takes place June 27. The works offer a preview of the Richmond Open Studios extravaganza coming in August (more details on that are below). The art center gallery is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Richmond lights up the shoreline with Third of July fireworks and festivities, July 3

Richmond is lighting up the shoreline for Independence Day with the Annual Third of July Fireworks show. The evening features live music, games and a variety of food vendors, with the fireworks display launching at 9:15 p.m. Families are welcome to bring picnic blankets for a night under the stars.

Movies in the Park returns to Richmond, July 10-Aug. 21

Richmond parks are hosting four Friday evening outdoor movie screenings this summer. Movies in the Park kicks off July 10 with “Goat” at La Moine Park, followed by “Zootopia 2” at Tiller Park on July 24, “The Bad Guys 2” at Marina Bay Park on Aug. 7 and “Hoppers” at the Richmond Recreation Complex in Nicholl Park on Aug. 21. All the screenings begin around 8:30 p.m.

National Night Out connects police with community, Aug. 4

Neighborhood parties are held each year across Richmond to mark the annual National Night Out event, which aims to bring the community and law enforcement closer together. Last year, Richmond organized 28 neighborhood gatherings, making it one of 337 California cities and 17,000 communities nationwide that took part in the annual event.

National Night Out, Tue., Aug. 4. The event usually begins with an opening party in one location and a closing party at another. Check back for details or watch the city’s website for an update.

Local artists open their studios to the public, Aug. 8-Aug. 16

The works of 90 local artists will be on view at various locations across Richmond for the annual Richmond Open Studios event. Artists open their studios to the public on Aug. 8-9, with individual artists selling their works at partner venues on Aug. 15 and collectives opening on Aug. 15-16. The event is sponsored by Visual Artists of Richmond, a group of 132 visual artists who live or work in Richmond.

Music, cars and fun at downtown Spirit and Soul Festival, Aug. 29

Downtown Richmond will fill up with vintage cars, music and community spirit at this year’s Spirit and Soul Festival. The gathering features food, beverage, arts and crafts vendors, live music, a classic car show, a health resources hub and games across six blocks of Macarthur Avenue — what organizers describe as “a vibrant space for arts, culture, wellness and community connection.”

Fiestas Patrias Parade celebrates Latin American Independence Days, Sept. 12

The Fiestas Patrias Parade winds through Richmond and San Pablo on Sept. 12 to commemorate the Independence Days of Latin American countries. Starting at 10 a.m. at 23rd Street and Barrett Avenue in Richmond, the parade travels through different neighborhoods before ending at Saint Paul Church in San Pablo at 1 p.m. The procession features floats, classic cars, spirited music and traditional dance troupes, with youth groups and local schools joining in.

100,000 people expected at Solano Avenue Stroll, Sept. 13

Entertainers, chefs and community organizations line one mile of Solano Avenue in Albany for the East Bay’s largest street festival. The Solano Avenue Stroll draws more than 400 vendors, including 50 entertainers, 25 food booths, 100 government and nonprofit agencies and 100 artisans. More than 200 businesses along the boulevard also join in, with an estimated 100,000 expected to attend.
