King King frontman Alan Nimmo admitted in a recent interview with Blues Rock Review that “it’s been too long,” but the band is hard at work on finishing up the new album called Light Up the Sky, which Nimmo told Blues Rock Review will be mixed by Kevin Shirley. Shirley mixed the first single, “Cried Out For Love,” and “Strong is the band’s newest single.

Joe Bonamassa and Gary Clark Jr. – “Chains And Things”

Two of the top talents in modern blues rock, Joe Bonamassa and Gary Clark Jr., team up for a take on the B.B. King classic, “Chains And Things.” Fans have waited years to see a collaboration between Joe and Gary. Bonamassa has recorded “Chains And Things” prior as a deluxe bonus track for The Ballad of John Henry in 2009. This time around, Gary Clark Jr. handles lead vocals for the track that will appear on the upcoming B.B. King’s Blues Summit 100, due out in February.

Spencer Mackenzie – “Shoot Me Down”

Spencer Mackenzie is a Juno-nominated Canadian blues rock guitarist who’s been on the scene for a few years now. His latest single, “Shoot Me Down” is a blues rocker featuring gritty slide showcasing Mackenzie’s musical evolution. The track is from the upcoming album, Empty Chairs, set to be released in February. Mackenzie is an underrated talent deserving of more recognition in the States.

Alice Armstrong – “Good Love”

Alice Armstrong has been making her name as one of the UK’s brightest voices over the past few years. This year, Armstrong made her United States debut at Playing With Fire in Omaha, Nebraska. This summer, Armstrong released her new EP, Fury and Euphoria, which features the standout track, “Good Love.” Armstrong is a name more people need to get familiar with, especially in the United States.

The Sheepdogs – “Nobody But You”

“Nobody But You” is the first new single from the Sheepdogs since the departure of long-time drummer, Sam Corbett. Frontman Ewan Curry said about “Nobody But You,” “The twin pillars of love and rock ‘n’ roll come together here in a pure expression of musical bliss. It’s the sound of windows down in your Trans-Am, the end of a workday, the optimism of a long weekend on the horizon.” Highly recommended.

About the track, Long said, “I kept hearing this idea of fool’s gold – how something shines until you get close. The rest wrote itself.”

Eric Gales – “You Shouldn’t Have Left Me”

Eric Gales’ career continues to ascend. His 2022 album, Crown, received a Grammy nomination and he stole the show at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival 2023. The trio released its self-titled debut album in August, and it features the three trading the lead role. “Pocket” is the band’s latest single, penned by Ian Moore and includes his lead vocal. It’s the album’s opening track and gives fans a taste of what the Texas Headhunters are all about.

Bywater Call – “Ain’t No Friend Of Mine”

Bywater Call is a 7-piece band hailing from Canada and has drawn comparisons to the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Anchored by vocal powerhouse, Meghan Parnell, and slide guitar wizard Dave Barnes, Bywater Call is one of the most talented bands in modern blues rock. About “Ain’t No Friend Of Mine,” Parnell said, “We wanted to write something bold and confident, mixing traditional blues influences with a modern rock attitude.”

Hollow Souls featuring Elles Bailey – “Burn It To The Ground”

Hollow Souls is the new blues rock group formed by guitarist Kris Barras. “Burn It To The Ground” was released as a single from the band’s newly released debut EP, Hollow Souls. “Burn It To The Ground” sees the band joining forces with vocal juggernaut Elles Bailey. Barras said, “I’ve been friends with Elles for a good few years now, and it’s been great to see her career go from strength to strength. Fans have often asked when we are going to record a song together. Now seemed like the perfect time. It’s a perfect project for Elles to be involved in. She absolutely nailed the vocal on this track, and we had great fun writing the lyrics together.”
