Dolly moved to Nashville the day after she graduated from high school.
4. Her first Number One
Parton had her first chart-topping hit in 1971 with “Joshua.” It also earned her one of her numerous Grammy nominations.

Dolly had received a total of 55 Grammy nominations, including ten wins. She’s also twice been nominated for Oscars and has multiple Emmy nominations as well.
6. She’s a Hollywood “star”

7. She once turned down Elvis
Parton famously turned down the chance to let Elvis record her song “I Will Always Love You” because of the demands his manager placed on the arrangement.

“Jolene,” another of her top hits was originally inspired by a bank teller who was a bit too flirtatious with Dolly’s husband, Carl Dean.
9. She owns a lot of wigs

Parton is an owner of Dollywood, located in Pigeon Forge, TN. She bought into the amusement park in 1986 and it opened for that season under the new name.

Dolly started the Dollywood Foundation back in 1988. It started by offering scholarships to local high school students, but had developed over the years into a more far-reaching organization which also provides free books to young children in the community and across the globe.
