Kanopy Dance, Madison’s modern dance company, will collaborate with another company — Sokolow Theatre/ Dance Ensemble, from New York City — on a program to be performed in both cities. “Divine Mythologies” includes the late choreographer Anna Sokolow’s 20-minute-long piece “Odes,” inspired by Greek mythology and set to electronic music, as well as work by Lisa Thurrell inspired by St. Peter’s Basilica. Tickets for performances in Promenade Hall cost $56.48 for adults, with discounts for students and groups.

Fight for change
“Committed,” a new play written by Coleman, opens this weekend at Broom Street Theater. The play blends a personal narrative with a social and political one, when a boy’s activist mother is imprisoned in 1963 and “his own protest five years later becomes the key to her freedom.” Matt Korda directs, and Sam White plays the Storyteller in performances at 1119 Williamson St. “Committed” is part of World Premiere Wisconsin. Advance tickets cost $30.65 or pay-what-you-can at the door, starting 30 minutes before show time.

Run for a cause
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and students at UW-Madison are organizing a fundraiser called the Survivor Stride 5K. The event, now in its third year, raises funds for local sexual assault prevention organizations. The race begins at Library Mall, where a resource fair starts at 10 a.m., followed by the race at 11 a.m. Registration is $7, but $20 gets you a t-shirt as well.

Poet and culture critic Eileen G’Sell will be visiting Madison to discuss her nonfiction book “Lipstick,” “a roving exploration of the tensions between femininity and feminism.” The book is part of Bloomsbury Publishing’s Object Lessons series, which investigates “the hidden lives of ordinary things.” G’Sell will read at A Room of One’s Own, 2717 Atwood Ave., at 1 p.m., followed by an open conversation with Meghan Allynn Johnson of the Madison Death Studio.

Make mosaic tiles, an Eastern European flower wreath or a lantern in the Rathskeller, then watch step dancers, Filipino dancers and Colombian performers in the Play Circle at the second annual WUD World Wide, an international festival on the UW-Madison campus.
