Back in 2019,
the first Disney+ original Star Wars series, “The Mandalorian”,
premiered and quickly became a massive hit among fans. Viewers
immediately fell in love with Grogu — initially better known
across the internet as “Baby Yoda” — as he traveled the galaxy
alongside bounty hunter Din Djarin.
Now, Star
Wars is finally returning to the big screen for the first time
since 2019 with The Mandalorian & Grogu. The film follows
the beloved duo as they embark on their next major adventure
together. It also marks the first time a Star Wars Disney+ series
has been adapted into a theatrical feature film, making it a major
moment for the franchise’s future.
With
excitement continuing to build around the movie, fans are eager to
learn how the story connects to the Disney+ series and what
surprises could be waiting for Din Djarin and Grogu on the big
screen. The film is also expected to play an important role in
shaping the next era of Star Wars storytelling.
From
returning characters and major story details to why this movie
could shape the future of Star Wars on the big screen, here are 5
things fans should know before checking out The
Mandalorian & Grogu in theaters!
1.
You Do Not Need To watch “The Mandalorian” Before Watching The
Mandalorian and Grogu.
While
watching the series may help you understand the returning
characters and storylines, the movie is being designed so that new
viewers can still enjoy it without prior knowledge of the show. It
will continue the story from the series, but it’s also intended to
work as a standalone adventure for general audiences and newer Star
Wars fans.
2.
Two Major Hollywood Stars Are Entering The Star Wars
Franchise.
Returning
from “The Mandalorian” is Pedro Pascal as Din
Djarin, alongside newcomers Jeremy Allen White (best known for “The Bear”) and film legend Sigourney
Weaver, who are both making their Star Wars franchise
debuts in The Mandalorian & Grogu. White voices Rotta the
Hutt, the son of the infamous crime lord Jabba the Hutt, marking
the character’s first major appearance in Star Wars since “Star
Wars: The Clone Wars”. Weaver will be playing a new character named
Colonial Ward who serves as the leader of the New Republic’s
Adelphi Rangers.
3.
Jon Favreau Returns To Direct.
Jon Favreau,
who created “The Mandalorian” and is known for directing films like Elf and Iron Man, is taking the helm of The
Mandalorian & Grogu. Favreau has also done voice acting in
several Star Wars projects, including “The Book of Boba Fett”,
“Star Wars: The Clone Wars”, and “Ahsoka”.
4.
Where In The Star Wars Timeline Does It Take Place?
Star Wars has
always told stories out of chronological order. An official
timeline has not been laid out for the film, though there is an
official timeline for the show, as the series takes place about 5
years after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
Since the film takes place after Season 3 of “The Mandalorian”, we
can assume it will remain within that same New Republic era
timeline. Lucasfilm head Dave Filoni has stated in an interview with Collider that he wants The Mandalorian & Grogu to
serve as an entry point for younger audiences and families. “But it
was, I thought, special to make this kind of an entry point for
kids, especially now going to the theater with their parents and
as, hopefully, they enjoy this movie, the world just opens up to
them in a way,” Filoni said.
5. Is
“The Mandalorian” Season 4 Still Happening?
Right now,
the future of the show remains unclear. Jon Favreau has said
multiple times that he has already written Season 4 of “The
Mandalorian”. However, due to the writers’ strike and Lucasfilm
approaching Favreau about developing a theatrical film instead, the
season has not moved forward into production. The future of the
series may ultimately depend on how successful The Mandalorian
& Grogu performs, but for now, the fate of Season 4 remains a
mystery.
As excitement
continues to build for The Mandalorian & Grogu, the film
is shaping up to be one of the biggest Star Wars events in years.
Whether you’re a longtime fan of Din Djarin and Grogu or completely
new to their story, the movie promises action, adventure, and a
return to the Galaxy Far, Far Away on the big screen. The
Mandalorian & Grogu is in theatres now!
