In the age of streaming, it’s never been easier to listen to new music — but with over 60,000 new songs added to Spotify every day, it’s also never been harder to know what to put on. Every week, the team at Rolling Stone UK will run down some of the best new releases that have been added to streaming services.

This week we’ve highlighted records from Shame, Suede, Big Thief, David Byrne, SG Lewis and Faithless.

Shame – Cutthroat

“It’s about the cowards, the cunts, the hypocrites,” Shame singer Charlie Steen says of the band’s fourth album, Cutthroat. On the new record, the south London band come out swinging with some of their most vicious and cutting music so far. On ‘Cowards Around’, they take cues from former tourmates and US post-punk legends Protomartyr on a swirl of snarling noise, while closing track ‘Axis of Evil’ has an 80s synth flair to it. It all points in the same lyrical direction though, as Steen puts bluntly: “It’s not about ‘Poor me.’ It’s about ‘Fuck you’.”

Suede – Antidepressants

Suede’s Brett Anderson told the crowd at a recent show that Antidepressants is the second of three black-and-white albums to be released by the Britpop heroes in the 2020s. “There will be a third black and white album. And then we will go to a different colour!” On Antidepressants, the band honour both the album and its colour scheme, making music steeped inspired by darkness and despair. As they have always done, beautiful melodies manage to peek through the clouds though.

Big Thief – Double Infinity

After releasing the mammoth double album Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You in 2022, Big Thief scale things back on Double Infinity. The band’s first album as a trio – following the departure of bassist Max Oleartchik – is delightfully warm and concise, with Adrianne Lenker’s spellbinding storytelling front and centre as always. It’s led by the astounding lead track ‘Incomprehensible’, which sees the singer shedding societal expectations and continuing to mark herself and her band out as one-of-a-kind.

David Byrne – Who Is the Sky?

The genesis of David Byrne’s new album came from him asking himself the big questions in a period of downtime:  “Do I like what I’m doing? Why am I writing songs, or working this job, or whatever? Does any of it matter?” One listen to Who Is the Sky? seems to suggest that his reason for being is an unquenchable fascination with the world and the people in it. From Talking Heads through a distinguished solo career, Byrne has done the opposite to many ageing rock legends, and is experimenting and expanding rather than settling.

SG Lewis – Anemoia

When SG Lewis discovered the word anemoia, it struck a chord in him. “It articulated a feeling I’d struggled to describe for so long — a nostalgia for times I never lived through,” he says. On the new record, he honours this word and this feeling, making music suitable for the Ibiza dancefloors it was inspired by, but also a stillness and meditative quality. “I think a lot of the music carries an undertone of melancholy, even when it feels high in energy,” he adds. “More than anything, I want Anemoia to be a soundtrack to living in the present — to creating the kind of moments that others might one day feel nostalgic for.”

Faithless – Champion Sound

Champion Sound is the first Faithless album in half a decade, and the first since the passing of their incomparable frontman, Maxi Jazz. Unveiled in four parts across 2025 and now arriving in full, the album is both a tribute to their late singer and a reaffirmation of the enormous club tunes that made the group one of UK dance’s best. Anthony Szmierek, Bebe Rexha and more flesh out an impressive supporting cast, all in support of Faithless’ continued MO: bigger is better.
