‘70s folk‑rock legend James Taylor may be known for his sweet, soft melodies on hits like “Fire & Rain,” and the singer is also an avid dog lover. The 77‑year‑old “Carolina in My Mind” singer is a dog dad to at least two Pugs, Bean and Bosun, and often features them on his social media accounts. Taylor’s TikTok video features one of the pugs taking the easy route on a walk, all to the soundtrack of one of Taylor’s most iconic songs.
In the charming video shared to Taylor’s TikTok account, the spry singer can be seen walking a long path with one of his furry buddies nestled in his backpack for the ride, while his other pug trots on leash swiftly behind.
“Bean hitchhiking a ride from dad… Bosun doesn’t approve,” Taylor captioned the video, which features Taylor’s own “October Road” as the aptly titled soundtrack.
Taylor looks happy and content with Bean catching a ride as the group energetically tackles the day’s walk.
Taylor later takes Bean out of his cozy spot in the backpack and puts him on a leash, where the little pup joins buddy Bosun on a trail walk through the woods.
“Made me smile,” shared one fan, while another added, “Watching a musical legend on a hike with his dog accompanied by a cool song is just terrific.”
How Much Exercise Should Pugs Get?
Bean and Bosun are perfect examples of the liveliness and energy of Pugs, known to be highly intelligent dogs who thoroughly enjoy physical exercise. But Pugs are prone to heat sensitivity, so they should get regular walks—but not during the hottest times of day.
PugHealth.org recommends Pugs get at least one walk per day, or two shorter interval walks, which could help your pooch avoid overheating.
Pugs love off‑leash play in a secure area, thriving on mental stimulation as much as physical. And these sweet, small dogs aren’t big fans of rain and wind, which can wreak havoc on their eyes.
So while it’s not necessary to carry your Pug in a backpack James Taylor–style, it is important to walk your Pug in the early morning or evening on hot days, and avoid cool and damp conditions when possible.
And always bring a collapsible bowl of water—after all that walking and playing will make your precious pooch thirsty.
