It was announced on Saturday that legendary actress Diane Keaton had passed away. According to The New York Times, her death was confirmed by Dori Rath, who produced many of Keaton’s most recent films.
Many of her former co-stars and friends, such as Jane Fonda, Steve Martin, Candace Bergen and others have spoken out about the late actress’s death and shared lovely tributes on social media.
Among those paying their respect was Saturday Night Live cast member Ashley Padilla, who once worked as Keaton’s personal assistant before joining the NBC sketch show. Last year, she wrote a book with Keaton titled Fashion First, which was published by Rizzoli.
On Saturday afternoon, Padilla posted a picture of her and Keaton on her Instagram story, wearing similar outfits and looking down at their shoes, with a caption saying, “I will never forget you. I will always love you. And I will miss you all of the time. Thank you for everything, Diane. You changed my life.”
The SNL cast member also posted a black and white video of Keaton singing on a tour bus.

A few hours later, just minutes before the second episode of SNL’s 51st season aired live, Padilla posted another picture on her Instagram feed, simply writing “I love you. 🤍,” as her caption.
Many of her close friends, including SNL castmates Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman, wrote lovely messages to her in the comment section, sending their regards and support. Others reflected on how kind and encouraging Keaton had been toward Padilla’s career, noting that the late actress often attended her performances at The Groundlings — the comedy troupe the 32-year-old was part of before joining SNL ahead of its 50th season.
Keaton was an Academy Award–winning actress, director, producer and style icon whose career spanned more than 50 years. She first gained attention for her role in Annie Hall in 1977, which earned her an Oscar for Best Actress and cemented her as one of Hollywood’s most distinctive leading ladies. Keaton became a frequent collaborator of Woody Allen, starring in Sleeper, Love and Death and Manhattan, while also taking on acclaimed dramatic roles in The Godfather trilogy, Reds and Marvin’s Room. She remained a box-office draw well into later decades with hits like Something’s Gotta Give and The Family Stone.
Beyond acting, Keaton was celebrated for her directorial work, philanthropy and fashion sense, inspiring generations of performers and artists.
Keaton was 79 years old when she passed in her home in Los Angeles.
