Why Tyler Is Even More Dangerous in Wednesday Season 2 Explained by Actor

Wednesday star Hunter Doohan recently opened up about Tyler Galpin’s shocking return in Season 2. In a new interview, the actor detailed how the character’s time in a mental asylum shaped his mindset and motivations. His arc sets the stage for a more unhinged and dangerous version of Tyler.

Hunter Doohan on why Tyler is so deranged in Wednesday Season 2

Hunter Doohan revealed that he waited nearly a year and a half to find out Tyler Galpin’s fate after Season 1 of Wednesday. “I didn’t know if he had escaped and was on the run, or if he was going to be locked up,” he told IndieWire. He eventually received the first few scripts in early 2024 before he started filming in Dublin that April.

Doohan described Tyler’s Season 2 character as “even more deranged,” noting, “He’s been locked in a mental asylum, literally chained up for months since we last saw him.” He was excited to return after nearly three years, saying, “It was just really fun to jump back into that world.” In contrast to Season 1, where he had to pretend to be a different person most of the time, Season 2 let him dive deeper into Tyler’s true self.

On Tyler’s dynamic with Wednesday, Doohan said, “We had this romance, but really, most of that was Tyler tricking Wednesday as part of Christina Ricci’s character’s plan.” He added that Tyler felt betrayed when Wednesday visited him in Season 2 with no intention of helping him escape. Doohan explained, “He’s definitely out for some revenge after that. His whole motive from the beginning is just to get out and be free.”

Doohan confirmed he did not share any scenes with Lady Gaga, who joined Season 2. “I didn’t get to meet her… but just so excited she’s on the show.”

Ahead of the second part, releasing in early September, Doohan said, “There are so many storylines that are going to start to collide in the second half of the season. People have a lot of fun stuff coming up.”

Wednesday Season 2, Part 1 is now streaming, with Part 2 set for September 3.
