Prepare for the weather (appropriate clothing, good walking shoes and water). There are vault restrooms available (no running water available in the park). The one-mile walk will be on level gravel and paved trail.

To park in the lower parking lot, west end, turn to the left after entering the main driveway and head down the hill. Then walk across the bridge to meet the naturalist in the stone picnic shelter area (look for the green flag).

For details, contact Michele Van Hare at 970-962-2643 or [email protected], or visit offero.cityofloveland.org.

The final, summer family program will look at the small creatures that share the Big Thompson River.

Organizers will use a kick net to collect samples of macroinvertebrates (small critters like stone fly and caddis fly nymphs) to look at and identify using field microscopes. It is a great way to see what is sharing the water when enjoying wading or tubing. They will also talk about how what we see tells us how healthy the river is.

Parents or guardians must attend with their children. The program is recommended for children age 5 and up. Materials are provided.

Dress for the weather, shorts and river shoes (not sandals) highly recommended. You may also want to bring a towel.

Meet at the Open Lands flag by the main kiosk and be prepared to walk 1/4 mile to the northeast side of Bass Pond. The trail is stroller friendly, and the field lab is in the shade.

For details, contact Michele Van Hare at 970-962-2643 or [email protected], or visit offero.cityofloveland.org.
