megiapa will release her new album ‘Intentions’ through International Anthem on September 25th.
A muli-talented artist, megiapa first gained notice in Chicago. Initially taking her cues from the Low End Theory scene of Los Angeles, she began making beats on Audacity in her bedroom, splicing these with spoken word observations.
Drawn into Chicago’s experimental music scene, megiapa opened for artists like Makaya McCraven, Bottle Tree, and Ben LaMar Gay.
Kicking off work on ‘Intentions’ thanks to a grant from the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, she later completed the album in Los Angeles after moving to the West Coast.
The shift, and those personal experiences, opened something inside her, enabling megiapa to complete the record.
Out on September 25th via International Anthem, the record is led by beatific, evocative new song ‘Open Your Eyes’. Glo-fi soul with a shimmering sense of the poetic, it offers fragmented alt-R&B merged with spoken word flows, all above skittering Madlib-adjacent beats.
