“We play really good teams this year,” Vancil said. “We play Holcomb (Hornets) and Clarkton (Lady Deer). Both are very strong teams. We have a really good schedule that I like that we get to play against.”
Last season, the Royals won 10 games, including starting the season with a 4-game winning streak against Kelly, Doniphan, Delta (Deering) and South Pemiscot. They also earned wins against Caruthersville, Richland (Essex), Southland, Clearwater and Senath-Hornersville. Their season came to an end Oct. 28 when they lost 3-1 in the Class 2 District 1 Tournament against Portageville.
The Royals were led by senior Karissa Welty with 36 serve aces, sophomore Lilly Oliver with 143 blocks and 147 kills, senior Maci Hockersmith with 91 assists, and sophomore Katie Acre with 1,047 receptions.
This season, Vancil will have a roster of underclassmen whom she expects to lead the way.
“I have a group of juniors that I think will take the lead and do a good job,” she said. “With having no seniors as of right now, I think they will push the younger girls in the right direction.”
