The Duchess revealed in the latest clip for her show that her husband dislikes a commonly avoided royal food item
Meghan Markle has revealed that her husband Prince Harry refuses to eat one particular luxury food that is often avoided by other members of the royal family.
It comes after Netflix released a new trailer for the second season of the Duchess’s show, With Love, Meghan. The show, which will see Meghan providing and discussing a variety of gardening and cooking tips, is set to air on August 26.
In the new trailer, Meghan can be seen discussing a recipe with a Spanish-American chef José Andrés. During the clip, Meghan can be heard revealing a key fact about the Prince’s diet.
She said: “Do you know who doesn’t like lobster? My husband.” To which the restaurant replied: “And you married him?” causing the pair to burst out laughing.

The royals’ complicated relationship with seafood
While it may seem strange on the surface that an affluent person such as Prince Harry avoids lobster, a food commonly associated with luxury and fine dining, it is a common trait shared among members of the royal family. Despite having access to some of the finest cuisines in the world, Royal protocol often means that certain things need to be avoided for practical reasons.
Shellfish in particular is said to be avoided during royal events and tours to help reduce the risk of someone suffering food poisoning while carrying out their duties. This was highlighted by former butler to King Charles, Grant Harrold, who said: “When dining, the Royal Family has to be careful with shellfish due to shellfish poisoning, due to their work schedules.
“It is a very sensible move to abandon having seafood when out and about on public duties. We don’t want a member of the Royal Family having a serious reaction to food poisoning. Especially if [they] are on an overseas tour. Therefore you will not normally find this on the royal menu.”
While fish and shellfish in particular can help make up a healthy diet, people who eat it can be susceptible to food poisoning. Food items such as mussels, oysters, clams, crab, and lobster can contain harmful viruses and bacteria, which can cause food poisoning if they aren’t cooked properly.
While most shellfish dishes are usually thoroughly cooked to help kill any deadly organisms inside, some are frequently served raw. Oysters in particular can contain certain viruses such as norovirus, which can result in symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhoea.
Because of this, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) advises that pregnant women, older people, very young children, and people with a weakened immune system avoid eating raw or lightly cooked shellfish to reduce the risk of food poisoning.
