Only at the Iowa State Fair could a breakup ballad double as a proposal soundtrack.
On Saturday, August 9, country star Megan Moroney hit the Grandstand stage in Des Moines for a high-energy set that included her emotional duet “Fix You Too” with Kameron Marlowe.
The 2023 breakup duet, featured on her debut album Lucky (Deluxe), is all about two people walking away when love no longer works—so naturally, a fan chose that exact moment to pop the question.
A clip of the surprise engagement quickly made its way to TikTok. In the video, Moroney, 27, can be seen singing with Marlowe, 28, when the crowd suddenly erupts. Confused, she mouths, “What just happened?” from the stage. When she realizes someone just got engaged, her jaw drops and she smiles.
It didn’t take long for reactions to pour into the comments.
“Pretty wild song to propose to but congrats doe,” one person wrote.
“This song is so good, heartbreaking too if you have been in a relationship like this song,” said another.
“Getting engaged during Megan Moroney… my dream date cute,” a fan chimed in.
“Why the hell would you propose to someone during this song?” someone else wondered.
The newly engaged fan, Madison Stoaks, posted her own video of the proposal. In it, her now-fiancé gets down on one knee while she’s focused on the performance. After hearing the cheers around her, she turns, sees the ring, and immediately covers her mouth in shock before accepting.
“Love Megan, love Kameron, love my new FIANCÉ,” Stoaks wrote in her caption. She added, “Made fun of him for proposing during a breakup song but I was so excited to hear them together.”
As for the timing? “Apparently he didn’t know it was a breakup song,” she commented, “just that it was the one I was most excited for.”
Despite the irony, the moment quickly became a highlight of the night and another example of how music—breakup anthem or not—can soundtrack unforgettable memories.
Moroney is no stranger to headline-making moments. Just one day later, she broke the Illinois State Fair Grandstand attendance record, drawing 15,532 fans to her August 10 show—surpassing previous record holders like Lil Wayne, Jason Aldean, and Reba McEntire.
The record-breaking show marked the end of her summer tour leg. “Summer camp ended last night in IL!” she wrote on Instagram. “My amazinggg band, touring crew & I get a month off the road but we’re looking forward to seeing yall again in September.”
Moroney’s Am I Okay? Tour picks back up on September 12 in Charleston, South Carolina.
