Taylor Swift certainly knows how to put on a show, and the cover art for her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, just might be her showiest, and sexiest, yet.
The Grammy-winning superstar revealed the artwork during a highly-anticipated appearance on the New Heights podcast, co-hosted by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his brother Jason.
This marks the first time that Swift has ever appeared on her beau’s podcast, and she certainly made an impression, using the episode’s release to unveil her cover art, tracklist, and a series of deluxe versions, which are now available to shop on her official site.
For the album shoot, Swift recruited esteemed fashion photography duo Mert Alaş and Marcus Piggott, and the result is easily Swift’s most provocative aesthetic yet.
The image calls to mind a moment from the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video, when Swift sits in a bathtub covered in jewels (a scene that many have considered a reference toward Kim Kardashian’s Paris robbery). Except this time, Swift’s almost fully submerged in the water, clad in a diamond swimsuit as the words of her album title float around her like debris. Could it be a nod to other iconic pop music moments, like Britney Spears’s “Everytime” music video? When it comes to Miss Americana, there’s always more beneath the surface.
Typically, Swift’s album covers have been close-up, simple shots of her face, but it’s clear that she’s leaning in to a more maximalist, more extravagant vibe for this era. Not to mention, it’s clear that she’s really feeling herself, and we’re totally feeling this vibe.
The Life of a Showgirl comes out on October 3rd. Rest assured Swifties, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for any future Easter eggs as they come.
