Taylor Swift has fans on the edge of their seats as she teases details about her new album The Life of a Showgirl.
The upcoming release, which is set to drop on October 3, marks Swift’s twelfth studio album and she says it’s an album that she’s been wanting to make for years. During an appearance on boyfriend Travis Kelce‘s New Heights podcast, she revealed that the record is set to chronicle her time on The Eras Tour.
“This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant. It just comes from the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life,” Swift explained on the podcast.
She continued, “That effervescence has come through on this record and as [Jason Kelce] said, bangers. We were just like, there’s no other songs coming.”
Opposed to her other releases, Swift noted that The Life of a Showgirl will have only 12 songs — and no bonus tracks. She explained the purposeful decision, sharing that she felt the record was perfect with that exact amount of songs.
“With Tortured Poets Department, I was like, ‘Here’s a data dump of everything I’ve thought, felt, loved, expereinced in two or three years. Here’s 31 songs.’ This is 12. There’s not a 13th, 14th. There’s not other ones coming,” Swift said.
She continued, “This is the record I’ve been wanting to make for a very long time. I also wanted it to be just every single song is on this album for hundreds of reasons. You couldn’t take one out and have it be the same album. It’s just right.”
Swift noted that the “focus and discipline” she put into creating the album kept the bar “really high” and was something she’d been “wanting to do for a very long time.”
“I tend to love to write lots and lots of music so it’s a temptation to release lots of music. But oftentimes, I wanted to do an album that was so focused on quality and on theme and on everything fitting together like a perfect puzzle that these 12 songs for my 12th album, I feel like we achieved that and I’m really happy about that,” Swift concluded.
The Life of a Showgirl is set to drop on October 3.
