This technique is especially useful in a small bedroom where you don’t have room for an especially large headboard, but still want to expand the space being the bed.’

Carlin states: ‘Among our clients, we’ve been seeing a huge increase in demand for large headboards. Though people once wanted their bedrooms to be a space for complete relaxation, I think today there’s a lot more concession that these spaces should feel as interesting as the rest of the home.’
As stated above, oversized headboards like Andy’s are also growing in popularity due to people living in smaller spaces in cities and looking for more ways to maximize their bedroom storage. This is one that doesn’t take away from the aesthetic of your home.
Design expert Shelley Cochrane also advises: ‘If you’re looking to add storage without compromising on the coziness in your bedroom, opt for an oversized upholstered headboard in a tactile fabric like velvet or boucle, which will soften the look of a larger bed nicely. Better yet, choose a bed with a wraparound headboard, which adds an extra cocooning element to help cultivate an atmosphere for the perfect night’s sleep.’
