As one of the most popular sitcoms of the ’80s, Roseanne still has plenty of devoted fans — and those longtime viewers continue to have very strong opinions about the cast members, all of whom returned for spin-off series The Conners…except, of course, Roseanne Barr (whose character was killed off after a series of Barr’s controversial tweets led to the cancellation of the original series).
In a video shared to TikTok this week from the recent Steel City Con in Monroeville, PA, actresses Sara Gilbert, 50, and Lecy Goranson, 51, shared a hug while making a panel appearance. As fans know, Gilbert and Goranson played sisters Darlene and Becky (with Goranson sharing her role with actress Sarah Chalke over the years).
While many commenters were thrilled to see the “sisters” together, others had a different take on the reunion.
“LOVED Becky. She could carry her own show,” gushed one person, with a second fan adding, “Awe Darlene and Becky” and another noting that “Becky looks the same.”
Some fans still seemed angry with the actresses for carrying on with The Conners after Barr’s scandalous departure, however.
“There is no Darlene and Becky without Roseanne,” someone argued.
“They both would have been NOTHING without Roseanne,” added another Barr supporter, as somebody else agreed, “Nope this was Roseanne’s show so no need to go see them.”
In an interview with Us Weekly ahead of the premiere of the final season of The Conners earlier this year, Goranson opened up about how the show would handle the death of Barr’s character.
“It’s a really interesting thing. [The idea of] when to bring her up, how it has been through the series is when it seems right. There’s touches of it without really landing on it and making it super heavy,” she said, adding, “If it felt like this is a Hollywood thing to bring all the guest stars back, that’s exciting for the audience. But it’s not really true to the world of the show. We’ve had people have feelings about the show since Roseanne left. But with what we have, it’s been really, really tasteful and well done, so I’m proud of it.”
