Mark the date in your calendars: October 3. That is the official date on which Taylor Swift will follow-up on the monumental success of 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department with her 12th album.
Christened The Life Of A Showgirl, the record will be produced by Max Martin, Shellback & Taylor Swift – a combination which has previously yielded hits such as We Are Never Getting Back Together, 22, I Knew You Were Trouble, Shake It Off, Style, Wildest Dreams, Delicate and Ready For It?
Details of the record were confirmed via Swift’s appearance on Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast. The BBC reported that more than “more than 1.3 million tuned in live for the broadcast.”
“We’ve never made an album before where it’s just the three of us making a focused album,” Swift said. “It felt like catching lightning in a bottle.”
“This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during [The Eras Tour],” Swift continued during the podcast. “It comes from the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life. That effervescence has come through on this record. So as you said, bangers.”
The standard edition of the record released via Republic (EMI in the UK) will contain 12 tracks, and one that is sure to generate a huge amount of interest is the title track, which features Sabrina Carpenter.
The record is available for pre-order now on vinyl, CD and cassette. The official Taylor Swift store also lists four additional limited edition CDs boasting variant covers.
News of Swift’s return will be a boost to the music industry as a whole. As Music Week noted in our latest issue, after years of consecutive quarterly growth, vinyl sales dipped by 2.8% year-on-year in Q2 of this year. Part of the problem being that 2025 was being compared to a 2024 quarter that saw Swift break streaming records with The Tortured Poets Department. Exploding to a No.1 UK debut on consumption of 270,091 units, TTPD was off to the fastest start of any album for more than seven years at the time, and the fastest of Taylor Swift’s career. It now stands on sales of 931,825 according to Official Charts Company data.
Interestingly, however, this year has already seen Swift break a chart record. With the chart-topping result for Lover (Live From Paris), Swift has moved ahead of Madonna to become the female artist with the most No.1 albums in the UK ever. As it currently stands, Swift is now equal with Elvis Presley as the international artist with most No.1 albums in UK chart history. The Beatles and Robbie Williams are out in front with 15 each.

In late May of this year, meanwhile, Swift announced that she had struck a deal to acquire her original masters for her first six albums. Having so far re-recorded four of those, she said that the final two would “have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right”.
During Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, Swift discussed acquiring her master recordings, after trying for a decade to secure the rights – and became emotional about the process involved.
“For me, this is not, ‘Oh, I want to own this asset because of its returns, because of the dividends that I will receive over the years,” said Swift. “I want this because it was my handwritten diary entries from my entire life. These are the songs I wrote about every phase of my life. This is my photography, my music videos, most of which I funded. My artwork, everything that I’ve ever done, is in this catalogue.”
Rather than sending entertainment lawyers or managers, Swift deployed her mother and brother to talk to investment firm Shamrock Capital about a deal to reclaim her catalogue from them.
When her mother called her, saying ‘You got your music’, she said: “I just very dramatically hit the floor. For real. Bawling my eyes out, and just weeping. This changed my life.”
