LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) – It was once a ‘ghost town’ but now Longview’s downtown area is bringing visitors back.
What were once boarded up storefronts, are now successful businesses, as the old downtown is making a comeback.
Longview Downtown Mainstreet Director Paul Guidros says the work to revitalize the area has been long and involved but he’s committed to making Longview a premier location for family friendly dining and entertainment.
According to Guidros, the program carefully selects what projects it undertakes to support downtown Longview.
“It’s a four point strategy that they’ve helped implement in these cities that choose to be part of that Main Street program,” said Guidros. ‘Those four points are economic vitality, design, organization and promotion. So through those four points things we get things like the design perspective like maintaining the charm of downtown, preserving the old buildings, making it more accessible to folks or even making it feel more safe.”
With the addition of family friendly businesses such as World of Wonders, coffee shops, restaurants, and aesthetic improvements, the area is drawing families back again.
