In a new candid post on Instagram, the Legally Blonde actress opened up about what being a mother in the industry really “looked like.” She wrote her reflections across a series of never-before-seen family photos of her and her three kids, Ava, Deacon, and Tennessee.
“Someone asked me what raising three kids and building a career in Hollywood looked like…” she wrote over the first image, which was a selfie that featured Witherspoon and her three kids smiling into the camera.

Witherspoon reflected on raising children in Hollywood
The next photo featured Witherspoon in an actor trailer with her son Tennessee grinning as he clambered on the sofa. “It looked like spending a lot of time in trailers together,” she wrote.
Then, she shared an older image of herself in a car with Ava and Deacon. “It looked like always being on the road together,” she wrote.
Then came an screenshot of a hilarious message from her son Deacon that read, “Mom you’ve butt-dialled an Instagram live.” “It looked like my kids constantly giving me career advice!” Witherspoon wrote.

She explained that working on set wasn’t always easy
She then got real about the difficulties of pairing Hollywood with parenting. “It looked really hard sometimes,” she wrote. “I’d cry working 14 to 17 hours, sometimes all night long and still woke up early for carpool. I was deliriously tired.”
She then added, “It looked like trying to say something positive about work when I got home at night.”
In the final slide, an image of Witherspoon and a young Ava by a pond, she summed it up: “In conclusion, even though it was challenging at times, having kids gave me perspective about what was important in life. Nothing was better than getting to come home and hug them and hear about their day.”
