Today in Royal Drama: the Never Ending Story, palace aides are allegedly upset with Duchess Sarah Ferguson (better known as “Fergie”) over a pair of shoes she recently wore.
In case you missed it due to understandably not keeping up with the footwear choices of random members of the royal family, Fergie stepped out in a pair of shoes embroidered with “Never Complain, Never Explain.” This quote is an obvious reference to the unofficial motto of the royal family— who are famously tight-lipped when it comes to drama.
And apparently, palace aides are upset that Fergie made the sartorial reference—and specifically feel it’s insulting to the memory of Queen Elizabeth II, who very much lived her life by that motto.
“It’s cheeky at best, deeply disrespectful at worst,” a royal insider told Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop. “Her Majesty lived that phrase with dignity. Fergie and Andrew’s track record? Not exactly in the same league.”
There’s also the fact that Fergie has remained loyal to her disgraced ex-husband Prince Andrew amid his many controversies—which has people feeling like her shoes are “tone deaf.” As another source put it, “It’s almost mocking the Queen’s legacy.”
Meanwhile, the “mood inside the palace” is said to be “frosty,” and an aide said “This was a silly, unnecessary stunt. And the timing? Couldn’t be worse.”
