KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It’s Major League Baseball’s Players’ Weekend this weekend (August 15-17), and the Kansas City Royals are taking full advantage of the opportunity to show off a little more style on the diamond.

In the field, players like shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and catcher Salvador Perez have already unveiled one of the bats they’ll be using throughout the weekend.

Witt Jr. went with a burger and fries-themed bat, likely a nod to his love for Whataburger, or “Wittaburger.”

MLB drops plan to start World Series early if both League Championship Series end by Game 5

Perez chose a custom bat as well. His features and celebrates all five of his American League Gold Glove Awards.

First-baseman Vinnie Pasquantino got in on the fun, too. His bat features his nickname or mascot present at Kauffman Stadium, the “Pasquatch.”

One of the more subtle but unique touches, though, will be on the pitching mound with left-hand rookie Noah Cameron set to make the start for KC.

Cameron, a St. Joseph, Missouri native, will wear cleats featuring Cameron’s high school, Central High School. A 2018 graduate, Cameron was a multi-sport athlete and a three-time first-team All-Conference pitcher at Central.

“Some people love high school, some people hate it,” Cameron told MLB.com’s Anne Rogers.

“But I loved all the sports, all the practices. Kept me busy. I still have best friends from high school that I hang out with all the time. Those are my roots. I feel so connected to Central, and I think I always will. And it helped pave the way for all of this.”

2024 marked the first MLB Players’ Weekend since the 2019 season, and the Royals brought some creative bats and cleats then, too. For example, Bobby Witt Jr.’s Pablo Sanchez bat, from the video game “Backyard Baseball.”

The Royals will face off with the Chicago White Sox for the first game of a must-win three-game series Friday evening at 7:10 p.m. As of Friday afternoon, the Royals are still a game under .500 (60-61) and four games out of an AL Wild Card spot.
