Madonna rang in her 67th birthday in style with a celebration in Italy, two years after a huge, controversial party, but fans found themselves a bit disturbed by the singer’s cake as she blew out the candles.
The legendary musician headed to the European country for her celebrations this year. She rang in her big day with a massive bash featuring her family and loved ones.
And while she has also spent time making pleas for humanitarian efforts in Gaza, the big focus during her time in Italy was on her big birthday bash.
However, as she shared a look at the fete with fans on social media, many became distracted by one particular detail.
In a video of the various festivities on Instagram, Madonna was seen blowing out the candles on a Labubu themed cake.
She initially shared the clip on her account with a caption explaining how the trip was one she had dreamed of for years, and was excited to have finally taken.
“My dream for many years has been to watch the Palio horse race in Sienna that takes place on my birthday, August 16, since 1482!! There are no words to describe the excitement, the suspense and the Pageantry!!” she wrote.
“A truly sacred ritual to witness thousands of people hushed to a silence before the race begins! The race itself is impossible to describe. Grazie Mille! Dreams do come true! Happy birthday to me!!! Ciao Italia!”
However, the moment in the clip where a giant Labubu cake was rolled out–complete with “Happy Birthday Madudu” written on it, was what caught many fans’ attentions, as they found themselves both delighted and horrified by the dessert.
However, others praised it and her.
“She’s amazing then, amazing now, amazing forever, and people seething about her is nothing new, just a sign that she’s always ahead,” one said.
“Happy birthday to the queen! Love the Labubu-inspired cake!” a second wrote.
“This is the sweetest and funniest birthday cale ever,” a third added.
