Cary Hudson and Dan Raza blend Mississippi blues with English folk music in the Wayfarer Blues Tour.
The tour will make two stops in the Jackson area. The duo will perform in Livingston on Aug. 23 and in Fondren on Sept. 2.
A Sumrall native, Hudson is a singer, guitarist and songwriter with a long career spanning several genres, including folk, blues, country and rock. Before his solo career, Hudson was one half of the Mississippi-born band Blue Mountain.
In the late ’60s and ’70s, Hudson spent his childhood singing at his grandmother’s Baptist church in the country and playing trombone in his school band. As a teenager, Hudson listened to classic rock on Jackson radio station WZZQ.
“I’ve traveled a lot, but I’ve always been based out of Mississippi,” Hudson said.
Raza is a staple of the London folk scene and mixes styles including soul and blues into his songs. His most recent album, “Wayfarer,” came out in February and is inspired by Raza’s travels in the U.S.
Hudson and Raza are separated by an ocean, but connected by a love of folk music. The pair met when Raza interviewed Hudson on his London-based radio show “Spirit and Roots” in 2020. They kept in touch and talked about playing some shows together someday.

Greg Preston, music producer and Hudson’s longtime friend, worked with Hudson and Raza to create the Wayfarer Blues Tour.
The Wayfarer Blues Tour is a Mississippi-exclusive tour that has already made stops in Ocean Springs, Columbus, Merigold and Oxford.
Hudson said the tour is going great so far, and he’s excited to “keep having fun playing music and sharing a few beers and laughs.”
He and Raza have been exploring the different cities and enjoying the local culture. The tour also features Hudson’s daughter, Anna Hudson, who plays maracas and sings.
Dan Raza plays in Columbus, one stop in the state-wide Wayfarer Blues Tour.

Hudson and Raza will open for Goodbye June at The Chapel at Livingston on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Tickets are limited, but as of Aug. 19, there are still some left through EventBrite for $20 plus service fees.

Hudson and Raza will play at the End of All Music record shop in Fondren on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show will start shortly after.
Tickets will be available at the door for $10 each.
