Could Addison Rae possibly hit the stage at the 2025 MTV VMAs, after all? At least, that’s what VMA nominee and breakout musician, Sombr, might have implied during a recent interview with TMZ.
Sombr’s highly anticipated album, I Barely Know Her, drops on August 22, and in a few weeks, he’s set to make his awards show debut at the VMAs. The Best New Artist and Best Alternative Artist nominee played coy when the outlet asked whether Addison would be involved with his performance in any capacity.
After a suspiciously long pause, he shrugged and said, “You never know! I think she’s on tour.”
The “Diet Pepsi” artist is embarking on her first-ever headlining tour this fall and performing in Berlin, Germany, on September 7—the same day the VMAs are taking place in New York. While she may not be able to make it IRL, no one ever said a virtual cameo was completely off the table.
Sombr and Addison starred in his steamy music video for “12 to 12,” where she freestyled some killer dance moves. Shortly after the visual dropped, the pair sparked dating rumors when they were spotted grabbing dinner in L.A. However, Sombr debunked them all with TMZ, confirming that their chemistry was reserved for the screen as it was “just a music video.”
The “undressed” hitmaker also spoke about his meteoric rise to fame, including his three tracks that landed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “I’m incredibly grateful. It’s crazy,” he gushed as TMZ followed him through LAX.
Rumors surrounding a potential VMAs appearance from Addison started circulating after the “Headphones On” singer didn’t receive any nominations for her self-titled debut album. She reacted to her snub during a recent interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, acknowledging that “not everybody” would understand her vision behind the project.
“Not everybody was going to accept it and enjoy it, but I think I will never let that change the way that I view creating and making music videos and putting out songs and different groups of creative decisions,” she said. “It definitely is funny whenever you feel like you put a lot of work into something and it doesn’t get recognized by some place that you feel like you were contributing to!”
We’ll have to tune in to the 2025 VMAs—which is set to air on both MTV and CBS—on Sunday, September 7 to see whether Addison’s performance rumors are true.
