Grease your hair and tie your bandana.
The Hot Rod Rock and Rumble is returning this weekend for its ninth year at Pikes Peak International Raceway. The family-friendly car show will have a display of pre-1976 classic vehicles, pinup contests, drag races, camping, tattoos, vintage vendors, food trucks and live music.
In addition to showcasing antique automobiles, trucks and buses, the venue will host a vintage camper village. Folks can camp overnight at the raceway throughout the weekend.
More than 20 bands will perform throughout the weekend, including headliners The Dead South on Saturday. Shanda & The Howlers will perform Thursday evening and The Chop Tops will go on Friday.
“I love the music aspect of this event. It’s something we don’t do all the time, and when we do do it, it’s amazing. It just it brings you into the excitement more,” said Rachel Tucker, marketing director for the Pikes Peak International Raceway. “Some include a little more rock. Some include a little more folk. It’s a little bit of everything.”
There will be several activities for kids, including a Power Wheels burnout pit, interactive slot car races and a junior rockabilly contest. Other activities throughout the weekend include a pin-striper panel jam, minibike extravaganza, burnout circus competition and vintage swap meet.
Attendees are encouraged to dress up in their best greaser and pinup attire. The community’s commitment to immersing into vintage hot rod culture really makes the event unique, Tucker said.
“The community brings out a whole different side of this event. Obviously, we encourage everybody to come and dress up and participate in all of the activities,” she said.
