BENNINGTON — The Better Bennington Corporation will bring together local artists, arts organizations and creative businesses for ArtsFest, a free community celebration of creativity and the arts, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at the Bennington Riverwalk next to The Bank of Bennington, 155 North St.
The family-friendly event invites residents and visitors to explore the area’s creative community through hands-on art projects, live performances, demonstrations and interactive activities designed for all ages. ArtsFest highlights the many organizations and businesses that contribute to Bennington’s arts and cultural scene while encouraging participants to create, learn and connect.
“As the new Executive Director of Better Bennington Corporation, I’m excited that ArtsFest is my first community event. I’m grateful to our board, staff, volunteers, and especially the Design Committee for all of the hard work and vision they’ve poured into making this celebration possible. We can’t wait to welcome the community to experience the incredible creativity that makes downtown Bennington so special,” said Ali Elwell Zaiac, BBC Executive Director.
Throughout the afternoon, visitors will have opportunities to help create a collaborative artwork with Stacey Sherman Art Studio, make paper jellyfish crafts with Bennington Museum, design handmade zines with The Left Bank Maurice Kahn Gallery, make wooden sculptures and contribute to the Vermont Arts Exchange Community Loom, and paint a community barn quilt with Better Bennington Corporation. The North Bennington Outdoor Sculpture Show will host outdoor drawing stations inspired by the sculptures installed along the Riverwalk, while King’s Knit Wit will demonstrate traditional knitting and spinning techniques.
The event also will feature robot demonstrations and e-waste art making by Comprehensive Computing, live performances from Monument Arts and Cultural Center’s “Musicals Through Time,” and a combination of trivia and live entertainment presented by Bennington Theater. Members of the 501st Legion will make special appearances throughout the afternoon, offering visitors opportunities to meet and take photos with costumed characters from a galaxy far, far away.
Food and refreshments will be available for purchase during the event, including pizza by the slice from Bennington Pizza House and cold beverages provided by King’s Knit Wit.
ArtsFest is free and open to the public. The event is presented by Better Bennington Corporation as part of its ongoing efforts to support Downtown Bennington and celebrate the artists, organizations and creative businesses that make the community a vibrant place to live, work and visit.
