Dean Cain was recently sworn in as an honorary ICE agent by acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Todd Lyons.

The Superman star was interviewed by Fox News correspondent Alexis McAdams at an ICE training facility in Brunswick, Georgia, to boost recruitment for Trump‘s mass deportation efforts. The actor was shown training at the facility, moving slowly and struggling to get through the obstacle course.

The 59-year-old was met with ridicule after he announced he was joining the federal law enforcement agency. Actor John Leguizamo called him a “loser,” while late-night host John Oliver fired off, “If all you can get is Dean Cain, you are f—-d.”

Dean starred as Superman in the series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman that ran from 1993 to 1997.

The actor made his way through the obstacle course, slowly climbing over a wall and struggling to get up after crawling through a pipe. Despite his superhero past, Dean’s display was less than impressive.

The actor announced his intention to join ICE, which was met with intense scrutiny. “People have to step up. I’m stepping up. Hopefully a whole bunch of other former officers, former ICE agents will step up, and we’ll meet those recruitment goals immediately and we’ll help protect this country,” he said.

A lot of the backlash stems from the fact that Dean is a descendant of Japanese immigrants who were imprisoned at the Minidoka War Relocation Center in Idaho during World War II.

He addressed the pushback during his appearance on Fox News this week. Alexis asked, “Why did you want to get involved with ICE? I know there was a little bit of backlash, right? Not everybody thought it was the best idea for Superman.”

“Ya think?” he responded, before defending people who join ICE by calling them “phenomenal people.”

Comedian John Oliver dragged the agency for using the Superman actor in their recruitment efforts during an episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

“I’m not saying that ICE isn’t finding people,” he said. “I’m just saying, when you are reduced to pinning a badge on the 59-year-old star of ‘The Dog Who Saved Christmas,’ ‘The Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation,’ ‘The Dog Who Saved Holidays,’ ‘The Dog Who Saved Halloween,’ ‘The Dog Who Saved Easter’ and ‘The Dog Who Saved Summer,’ maybe you are in trouble.”

The Department of Homeland Security has been ramping up its recruitment efforts after a massive budget increase. Additionally, it amended some of its recruitment requirements, including lowering the minimum age to 18 and eliminating the age cap for joining. It is also offering incentives for new recruits, like signing bonuses and student debt relief.

Despite claims that he was “joining” ICE, Dean was sworn in as an honorary member, meaning he won’t actually be holding any official duties or law enforcement authority.
