Diego Borella, an assistant director on the hit Netflix show Emily In Paris, has died at the age of 47, People reported.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the sudden passing of a member of the Emily in Paris production family,” a Paramount Television Studios spokesperson told the outlet. “Our hearts go out to the individual’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
Borella was on set inside Hotel Danieli in Venice, Italy on Thursday, August 21 when he collapsed. Medical professionals attempted to revive him, but were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene at around 7:30pm local time, according to the Italian news outlet Corriere Del Veneto. Another local newspaper, la Repubblica, reported that the cause of death was “likely a sudden heart attack,” though no official autopsy results have been released yet.

Filming was suspended immediately following the tragedy, but had resumed again by Saturday, according to People. The filming currently underway in Venice is for the final episode of season five, which is set to hit Netflix on December 18, per The Independent.
The upcoming season will also see the titular Emily (played by Lily Collins) spending time in Rome, where filming took place in recent months. “This season is a tale of two cities. Rome and Paris,” creator Darren Star previously said. “Straddling both, Emily takes love and life to the next level.”
