Eversolo’s Play Is A New Music Streaming Device With A CD Player. Just Add Speakers

Audio streaming brand Eversolo recently announced its first all-in-one music streaming player. The Eversolo Play combines a network streamer with an integrated stereo amplifier that just needs a pair of speakers to make it sing. I recently spent some time with the Eversolo Play CD Edition to see what features its has for the first-time streamer owner.

The Eversolo Play was launched at High-End Munich 2025, the show for premium audio. At Munich, the Eversolo Play was greeted with considerable interest and was shown in two versions: the Standard Edition and the CD Edition which includes a built-in CD-ROM drive that opens on the side of the unit and provides high-precision reading of silver discs for playing and ripping.

At the heart of the Play is a flagship AK4493 DAC from AKM. The engineers who designed the Play managed to produce a signal-to-noise ratio of ≥109dB (A-wt) and a very low Total Harmonic Distortion of 0.0037%. The Play’s amplifier is a Class D design and has an output of 60W when connected to a pair of 8Ω speakers.

A Streamer That’s Roon Ready

The software that runs the Eversolo Play supports a variety of music streaming platforms or services including TIDAL, Qobuz, TuneIn, Deezer and Amazon Music. The tight integration of the operating system provides a uniform interface that gives the Play a logical set of controls whichever streaming service is being used. The Play also support Roon Ready, Qobuz Connect and TIDAL Connect so you can play your music directly from the servers instead of going via your smartphone.

The Play connects to the internet either via dual-band Wi-Fi or Ethernet. It can access music stored in the cloud or on the user’s local network using UPnP or WebDAV. For example, you could store a bunch of files on your Dropbox account and Play will access them. There’s also instant access to music files stored on a local NAS, so you can easily access a library of your favorite tunes.

When playing music from a local NAS with the Play, users can use the device’s library management system that was created in-house by Eversolo. The system supports multi-dimensional and cross-platform data management, which means you can view all your music using a global search function that can find a song quickly, whether it’s on one of your streaming services or on your NAS in the living room.

These days, many of us like to have music all around our home playing on devices in different rooms like the kitchen, dining room or lounge. The Play’s multi-room functionality is easy to set up using Eversolo Play units in different rooms. There’s also support for Apple AirPlay 2 which means you can use any AirPlay-compatible speaker on the system. There isn’t support for Google Case but there is a Bluetooth streaming option with support for SBC and AAC codecs. Tracks and volume levels for individual devices can all be remotely controlled using the Eversolo smartphone app.

Room Correction

All rooms in a house have different acoustic properties so audio systems can sound different depending on which room they are being played in. To counter this, the Eversolo Play includes Room Correction which can sample the sound produced by the Eversolo Play and then automatically adjusts the EQ or tone settings to compensate for any acoustic deficiencies. This feature can provide an optimal and consistent sound all around the home.

The Eversolo Play is housed in a CNC case made from a tough aluminum alloy. The structure feels rigid and has sufficient shielding to combat external electromagnetic interference from sources like microwave ovens, cordless phones, Wi-Fi routers or Bluetooth devices. This ensures the audio signal stays as pure as possible. The base of the Play functions as a heatsink which reduces any heat buildup from the Play’s components, providing a more stable performance and a longer life for the circuitry.

Large Color Touchscreen

The star of the Eversolo Play is undoubtedly its vibrant and detailed 5.5-inch color touchscreen. The Play can be controlled using the low-latency buttons on the screen, which sports a newly designed interface. Eversolo has clearly put a lot of thought into how the interface looks and feels. Changes were made following feedback from customers. The controls are split into six areas: Music Services, Functions, Apps, Connect, Cloud and Settings.

At the rear of the Play is a 12V trigger port for synchronizing the system control if using the Play with other hi-fi separates. Then there is a range of inputs, including an HDMI ARC connection for taking sound from a smart TV. Eversolo has also included inputs for optical and coaxial digital sources, such as a CD player.

Also at the rear of the unit are connections for driving an optional subwoofer which is not a bad idea as the Play is slightly light on bass. There are also RCA steroe inputs with a phono stage that can handle output from a turntable with both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges.

A pair of speakers can be connected directly to the binding posts on the Play and there’s also a USB 3.0 OTG output that can be used to expand the Play’s storage capacity from the 32GB onboard memory. The USB port can be used for an external hard drive or SSD which can hold a larger local music library. It’s also rip favorite CDs if you choose the Eversolo Play CD Edition. You can store the ripped audio files on the internal memory or an external drive. The Play also has a USB audio output that can handle DSD512 Native and PCM files up to 768kHz/32-bit, which it then can route to an external DAC.

A Few Missing Pieces

The absence of Google Cast may irk some Android uses, but as an iPhone user, it’s good to see support for Apple AirPlay which is missing from the latest streamers from WiiM. The Eversolo smartphone app also handles high-quality wireless streaming from your iPhone, iPad or Android device so not having Google Cast isn’t a big issue.

The Evesolo Play comes with plenty of features, but it also has one or two that are missing. For example, there is no remote control supplied as standard, but you can buy one from Eversolo for around $25. Alternativel,y you can use your smartphone and the Eversolo app or the buttons on the touchscreen. However, I like a dedicated remote and I think the Eversolo Play could benefit from shipping one in the box.

The one other omission is the lack of a physical headphone jack but I assumed the Play would be able to stream music to a pair of Bluetooth wireless headphones instead. However, it can’t. Lots of people enjoy listening to their music through a pair of headphones or would like to listen at night and not disturb other people in the house. The Eversolo Play could benefit from either a physical headphone jack and the ability to stream to Bluetooth headphones using a high-quality audio codec like aptX Adaptive or LDAC.
