Another North Okanagan outdoor music event silenced by wildfire smoke

Another outdoor music event in the North Okanagan has been cancelled due to wildfire smoke as air quality in the region rebounds, but only slightly.
The Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce announced July 24 it has cancelled Music in the Park featuring Ghost Town, which was slated to go from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Lions Gazebo in Memorial Park.
Ghost Town is a newly formed North Okanagan band featuring veteran local musicians Mike Fraser, Garry Wenger, Mike Dolan, and Bob Oldfield. Park-goers will have to wait until a future date to hear them play.
“Stay tuned for information on a new date,” the chamber said.
The postponement comes a day after the Downtown Vernon Association cancelled its Thursday night Downtown Sounds concert due to the smoke.
The North Okanagan is currently under a yellow air quality warning, as is most of southern B.C., according to Environment Canada. Under a yellow warning, smoke exposure can have health effects.
People are advised to postpone or reduce strenuous outdoor activities until the warning has ended. Spend time indoors in a space with cleaner air.
Some people are more likely to be negatively impacted by smoke, including people with lung and heart conditions, pregnant individuals, infants and young children, people aged 65 and older, and anyone whose health is affected by a chronic condition or acute illness.
Earlier Friday, the Central Okanagan was under an orange warning, indicating severe air quality conditions.
